Manama musings 2.0

Post by jjw » Wed Oct 27, 2021 5:46 pm

Just to emphasize how Manama has been relatively successful this season because of a true team effort, the club has only one player ranked in the league's top 10 hitters in any category -- Patrick Strolz, who is tied for the lead in batting average at .358. The same can be said for pitching -- only two hurlers, veteran reliever Frits Brinson, with his 27 saves tied for 5th, and 23 year-old reliever Rick Claris, who is among the top 10 in shut downs and holds, ranks in the top 10 in any category. Oh wait -- forgot about starting pitcher Santiago Zuniga, who is ranked 7th in IP, but then also has given up the most homers in the league: 32, which puts him four 'ahead' of anyone else. So nothing to brag about there! And then on defense, there has been but one Manama player who ranks well in a performance category (I do not count PO and Assist numbers as showing performance excellence, as they reflect simply innings in the field as much as anything else, but second baseman Mike England and shortstop Socrates Kazantziakis have good numbers here): third baseman Jack Nichols, who is ranked 6th in EFF. So: No superstars on Manama's roster (save maybe Mr Strolz) but a lot of above average players.
