5 Playoff Questions

Top 5 Questions Facing the Manama Pearls for the 2045 Postseason

1. Can Zuniga and Karto carryover their regular season success?
19 year old "Karto" and 20 year old Zuniga were not at the forefront of the Pearls loss in last year's defeat to Bucharest. This year, they will be. Both won 21 games during the regular season, but the lights are brighter and the pressure heightened in postseason play. The Pearls will likely need at least one of the pair to perform like a true staff ace if they are to climb the mountaintop.

2. Will the big three of Guerrer, Oh III, and Koka do enough damage to carry the offfensive load?
The heavy lifting of the offensive attack of the Pearls lineup mostly comes from this trio. Postseason play requires that your big bats produce. All three achieved an OPS of .900+ in the regular season, and this will need to continue. Perhaps just as important will be the on base skills of the top two hitters in the lineup, 3B Jose Cortes and LF Rafael Mckinna. With OBP's of .374 and .412, respectively, their ability to get on base will allow the big guys to maximize their damage.

3. Is Edwin Harney ready for the big stage?
Twenty year old Edwin Harney was a huge part of Manama's success this year. In the early stages of the season when the bullpen and team was struggling, a reshuffling of the bullpen was in order. Enter Harney. Over 64 IP, Harney compiled a 1.69 ERA, 73 K's, and 21 saves. Several of his saves were of the more than three out variety, often coming into games in the 8th inning and still finishing the job. The last three outs of any game are the toughest to get in a baseball game, but even tougher in postseason baseball. Whether or not Harney can maintain his regular season success will play a key factor.

4. Gary Schneider= X factor?
Schneider is a BBA veteran who bounced around the league a great deal, and along the way he had a few nice slugging seasons. In 2038 in Wichita he homered 25 times. Seven years later Schneider is still a threat. Signed in July, Schneider has found himself in the role of a very useful insurance policy. When starting SS Jesus Flores broke a bone in his elbow and was lost for the season, it triggered an infield shuffle in Manama that has found Schneider as the starting first baseman. 2B/SS James Holman was moved into the SS role with Wally Geoghegan moving over from first base to take over the second base duties. In just 40 at bats, Schneider homered four times and reached base at a .409 clip. His presence and potential ability to do damage from the bottom end of the Pearls lineup could be a major "X factor" for the team's potential success.

5. Will the real Johan Trojka please stand up?
Coming into the 2045 season, Johan Trojka had quickly established himself as one of the premier starting pitchers in the UMEBA. With three consecutive 4.5+ WAR seasons coming into the year and his career best 2044, it was reasonable to think that Trojka was on his way to superstardom. Well, 2045 had different ideas. Trojka has been very erratic, very inconsistent. His ERA flirted with the 5.00 line all season long, with him ending the year just under at 4.71.His hits allowed and K rate were the worst of his young career. Still, at 25 years old, his story and career arc is far from written and established. Can he recapture some of the magic he so frequently showed in the past?
