Teammates chasing records/Draft Report

Post by hetz23 » Mon Jan 18, 2021 8:15 am

Manama-

Teammates Santiago Zuniga and Susilo "Karto" Kartosuwiryo are chasing UMEBA history together. Each pitcher currently holds 19 wins, tying the all time UMEBA record. With a month still remaining in the season, it's a good bet that at least one of them will get the mark. Who will ultimately hold the record? It would be more fitting if they ended up tied in this season for the young and sublimely talented righthanders. While pitching wins is an archaic stat for the advanced metrics crowd, there is still something magical about a 20 win season from a starting pitcher, and they both could very well reach that milestone. Their other pitching numbers aren't too shabby either.
Karto-
19-3, 2.90 ERA, 218 K's, 4.34 WAR
Zuniga-
19-3, 3.13 ERA, 173 K's, 5.26 WAR

Ultimately, their season may be defined on whether the duo can help get the Pearls a UMEBA championship.

DRAFT REPORT
Let's take an early look at the first three Manama picks in the 2045 Amateur Draft

1st rounder Patrick Stolz:
Despite knowing of his injury status coming into the draft, the Pearls still selected the corner outfielder with their first round pick. The big story is that the Pearls have been playing him at 1B in Chongqing. This could be because they are already trying to project his role onto the big league roster as soon as possible. 1B is an area currently shared in Manama with Geoghan potentially moving to 2B full time in an expected infield shuffle. Stolz has played some 1B and feels comfortable there. Early returns are that he has looked like he belongs at 1B, and considering he was not seen as a plus defensive outfielder in the first place the move makes sense. The Pearls think his bat can move fast up through the system, and early returns are impressive. In 63 AB's, he's slashing at .349/.406/.571 with 3 HR. Some scouts are projecting that Strolz could see Manama as soon as 2046.

2nd rounder Taylor Barfoot:
Many were surprised when Manama took a second corner outfielder with their second round pick. Perhaps Manama already had laid plans for Stolz to move to 1B, but also considering Barfoot's first few months in the organization, no one is questioning the move now. All Barfoot has done in 212 AB's in Chongqing is hit 30, yes 30, homeruns. He has only 68 hits total... which means that almost 50% of the base hits he has notched are base hits that have landed over the fence. The rookie league competition is not stellar, but those numbers on any level make you take notice. Organization insiders say Barfoot will be pushed as high as AA in 2046 with a potential arrival in Manama in 2047.

3rd rounder Jin-suk Im:
With their third pick, the Pearls organization went to pitching, and it looks like their scouting system may have come up with another good one. Im has struck out 107 over his first 92.1 IP while accumulating a 3.06 WAR in his short career in the organization. Im features five playable and projectable pitches to keep batters guessing, with his rare splitter/forkball combination being quite unique. The forkball acts as more of a changeup while his splitter is thrown harder and appears like a fastball coming out. Manama can, and probably will, afford to be a little more conservative in Im's development considering the seemingly endless stable of young arms within the organization.
