A Day of Reckoning

Manama General Manager Erupts Your local Manama ballclub' 2046 season has thus far been a very frustrating thing to watch. The attributes of the club that has reached the UMEBA Cup championship round in both of the last two seasons is absent, valued contributors are struggling, fundamental play is lacking, and the Pearls find themselves closer to the cellar of the league than they do the top. This all boiled over after the latest seven game stretch in which the Pearls bumbled to a 1-6 record. General Manager Hetzer went on a rant for the ages, promised changes, and stormed out of the post game press conference only to be heard blasting his players. The assembled media can only today speculate and wonder what Hetzer was referring to in his sometimes cryptic post game comments. In assembling our sources and media members who follow the team, this is out best guess as to what may come.

Failed Experiment
One move made in the preseason that came with some controversy was to move rookie closer Edwin Harney into the rotation and Manuel Camacho from the rotation to the closer role. Harney had a couple of solid starts early but has since struggled. Camacho has been the opposite, struggling at first but pitching much better of late out of the pen. Still, part of last year's surge was when Harney was called up and inserted as the closer. Returning him there could be an attempt to sort out a bullpen that has been disorganized in it's roles and largely ineffective.

Speaking of Bullpen...
We have been able to confirm today that two veteran bullpen members have been sent to AAA Khartoum with two pitchers coming up in corresponding moves. Down is Ken Spencer and his 7.62 ERA as well as Masake Adachi and his 5.40 ERA. Reportedly recalled from AAA Khartoum will be Mitchell Robinson , reliever who was actually up late in the season in 2045 and earned a place on the playoff roster. He currently has a 2.10 ERA in Khartoum with 29 K's over 25 IP. Perhaps even more intriguing is that also being called up is the 2045 Pitcher of the Year in the SABL, Calvin Fletcher. Fletcher has been more solid than spectacular in the Khartoum rotation, reports are that he will be immediately inserted into a "stopper" type bullpen role where his ability to throw 2-3 innings in an outing will be utilized.

The Future
It has become a daily habit for Pearls fans to check the Bogota box scores for the latest exploits of the dynamic left handed hitting duo there. Patrick Stolz, the Pearls first round draft pick in the loaded 2045 draft class, is slashing at a rate of .371/.444/.575, an OPS over 1.000 at any level of professional baseball is a feat. There are some within the organization who believe Stolz's bat is ready, and he did nothing to dispel that with a strong spring. Corner outfielder Taylor Barfoot is also making his mark in Bogota. Following after Strolz as the second round pick, Barfoot absolutely destroyed the competition in Chongqing at the rookie ball level, hitting a ridiculous 30 homers in just over 200 at bats. In Bogota he is at .338/.385/.566 with eight homers. It appears inevitable that the two end up in the Manama lineup in some way shape, or form by 2047 opening day. Could the Pearls decide to move that timetable up? What would that mean for the current roster if they did? Strolz has been working out at 1B in Bogota and the first base production has been mediocre at best. So logically giving Stolz a shot could be in the cards. Barfoot could have a tougher route. Koka, McKinna, and Caine have been three of Manama's hitters who are performing. This could, however, be a precursor to what could be a messy divorce with Sadaharu Oh. Reports are that Oh has been shopped heavily, his production is way down, the Pearls could choose to marginalize his playing time in favor of Barfoot, knowing they will be non tendering Oh at year's end.
