Coming up to the mid way point of the season if fans had said the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers and Tokyo Pearls would be stop of the standings, it would have been a case of no surprise. If I'm the same breath they had mentioned the Johannesburg Gold, now that would have been a surprise. They were predicted to win 74 they are already have way there even though they have played only 66 games, never having played play off baseball before or even a .500 season the Gold may well be stepping into the unknown.

Next year will be the 75th Anniversary of the Field of Dreams movie, rated recently as the second best baseball movie behind the comedy Flyball in my Torshina, a comedy based on Vinnie Bonin's years with the Baghdad Kings. In the Field of Dreams film the character Terrence Mann played by James Earl Jones gives a speech in which he talks about the [URL=http://www.destinationhollywood[.com/movies/fieldofdreams/feature_baseballspeech.shtmla constant[/URL ] of baseball, fast forward 74 years and the one constant today are the London Monarchs. Whilst other teams have fallen away (Athens Fighting Centaurs) and others have climbed the rankings (Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers) the London Monarchs have had a steady season, rarely moving from 4th in the power rankings only falling below 4th four times in the 13 weeks the seasons been going, 2059 was there last play off appearance, 2058 there last championship. Whisper it softly the Monarchs maybe making another charge for a title.

It was a week of full houses, a week also in which if you went watching the Johannesburg Gold you got your monies worth. On the Friday Dima Rozinov of the Cairo Pharaohs went 5-5, thankfully for the Gold and there charge to the top of the top of the GBC AfSAmOc Rozinov didn't do much damage and the Gold won 6-5 in extras (11).

Were as Rozinov despite is 5-5 didn't help Cairo, Fareed bin Sa'eed did help his team in a win against the Moscow Thunder Bears (14-6) with 2 2B, 1 RBI and 3 R in his 5-5 on Sunday.

The Athens Fighting Centaurs have slumped to the bottom of the power rankings, the Centaurs fall from grace out a smile on the face of the Thunder Bears who have been at the bottom of the standings since the 2nd week of April.

Whilst Athens have been slipping down the rankings the Johannesburg Gold have been climbing the heights of the power rankings. In fact so much so the bottom spot in the first week of the season was being warmed by the Johannesburg Gold, the same Johannesburg Gold who now sit in the lofty position of 33rd in the power rankings.
