UMEBA: Blowouts(FUBAR), Blowups, and walk offs Sim 25

Post by HerbD » Sun Aug 09, 2020 6:11 pm

Back to our normal amount of games for our column this week as the season is winding down.

September 15, 2043
Cairo 2 CSKA 13 BLOW OUT
Leadoff man Torres set the tone for the Red Army slapping four hits in the game and falling just a homer shy of the cycle but it was a team effort as CSKA totaled 14 base hits and eight bases on balls keeping the base paths clogged all night. Sanchez and Dyola combined to give up just two runs on the mound in the victory.

Libyan 1 Bucharest 11 BLOW OUT
The Generals managed 15 base runners in the game but the Impalers' pitchers were able to pitch out out of jams and strand 14. At the plate Bucharest boasted five different hitters with two RBI making this victory a total team effort.

Baghdad 3 Cairo 4 10 INN WALK OFF
Trailing 3-1 the Chariot Archers used a pair of run scoring singles in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 3-3. That scored held until Jean Le Berre hit a two out, first pitch homer off the right field foul pole for the victory. It was Le Berre's tenth homer of the season and his two hits pushed his batting average up to .208.

Baghdad 1 Cairo 2 11 INN WALK OFF
For the second consecutive day Cairo walks off Baghdad in extra innings. The Kings scored first with a Savage triple followed by a Mosely sac fly in the sixth inning. Cairo tied it in the seventh on a Young leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning. It looked as if Baghdad may score again in the top of the eleventh when with two outs Mosley doubled and Gomez was hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second with two outs. Delgado buckled down and struck out Terry to end the threat. In the bottom of the inning Cairo found themselves in the same situation following a double by Weston and an intentional walk issued to Young to set up the force out. Instead of striking out Anderson lined a single to left-center that plated Weston with the game winner.

CSKA 18 Beirut 4 BLOW OUT
It's late in the season and draft slots are at stake but the Red Army are not giving games away as they have their second blow out of the sim. The visitors slugged five homers including two by Hollinger to give him 28 for the season and pushing his RBI total to 114 putting him tops on the team. Kennedy posted four hits while three others had three hits. CSKA scored 16 runs in the first four innings putting the game out of reach early.

Kuwait City 4 Istanbul 5 11 INN WALK OFF
KC out hit the Bosphorus 10-7 but it was the timeliness of the hits that made the difference. Dornster followed a Moore RBI double with a two run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning that tied the score at four each. The score remained the same until the bottom of the eleventh inning when back up catcher Marrero and his two homers on the season greeted Kinney with a leadoff homer to win the game. Marrero's 1-5 performance pushed his season average to .185!

Mumbai 2 CSKA 14 BLOW OUT
The Red Army are really trying to set the tone for next season as the post their third blow out of the sim against three different teams. It was a respectable 5-2 game before CSKA scored six runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to blow out the Metro Stars. Maybe there are a lot of performance incentives in the Red Army contracts? I'm not sure but they are playing their best ball with just week left in the season. Every player in an Army uniform that stepped to the plate had a hit and Gagne finished with three including two triples. Rush pitched seven innings of two run baseball and Ortega pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game.

September 21, 2043
Manama 12 Cairo 0 BLOW OUT
Manama puts the hammer down and accomplishes the elusive blowout/shutout against Cairo. The Pearls finished with 18 hits but just four were for extra bases as Veenman had two homers on the day. Wilson pitched eight innings of four hit ball while Stinson cleaned up the ninth. McKinna ended the game with four hits while Veenman finished with four RBI.

Athens 20 Jerusalem 7 BLOW OUT
Our column would not be complete without someone blowing out Jerusalem although they have been coming at a much slower pace than they once were. Eight of the nine Fighting Centaurs starters finished with multiple hits while Cravat(3) and Robles(2) each belted multiple homers. It was the second time this sim that Cravat had hit three homers in a game giving him eight in his last five games and putting him at 55 for the year. The Hebrew Hammers collected 18 hits of their own including four from Ortiz but they left 15 men on base.
Montreal Blazers(BBA) 2044~2047(353-295, .545 W%)
2045 Wildcard(lost in one round)
2046 Atlantic Champs(lost in one round)
