UMEBA: Blowouts(FUBAR), Blowups, and walk offs Sim 16

While there were several games where teams scored in double figures and also quite a few one run games, only three games met the criteria for our column.

July 16, 2043
Manama 8 Libyan 12 13 INN WALK OFF
Manama was playing catch up for most of this game and when they finally did catch up to the Generals they were kicked in the groin by Leach in the bottom of the 13th inning. With runners on second and third and two outs the Pearls decided to intentionally walk Ortiz to load the bases for Leach. Leach responded by pulling one down the right field line and over the fence for a walk off grand slam.

Istanbul 7 Baghdad 8 WALK OFF
Baghdad scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at six runs. Istanbul would pull back in front with one run in the top of the eighth. A single and two walks(on eight pitches) would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth for the Kings. The Impalers were hoping for a double play to win the game but instead got a Wes Savage two run double to turn the score around and make the Kings walk off winners.

Bucharest 1 Cairo 2 11 INN WALK OFF
Pitching was featured in what is now one of the lowest scoring games of the UMEBA season. Each team allowed just one run for the first 10 innings with each starter giving them up while the bullpens gave up none until the bottom of the 10th. In the top of the 10th Bucharest was a victim of bad base running as Mike Franklin was thrown out attempting to steal second for the final out. In the bottom of the inning Le Berre, who was inserted as a pinch runner, raced home from second on a routine single to left and beat the throw for the thrilling victory.
