UMEBA: Blowouts(FUBAR), Blowups, and Walk Offs sim 1

Post by HerbD » Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:24 am

Chris had no plans to do his FUBAR piece for the UMEBA so he gave me permission to do it. I've added a couple of other things to look at since there are far fewer teams in our league.

April 1, 2043
Cairo 2 Manama 3 10 INN WALK OFF
Tied at 2-2 heading to the bottom of the 10th inning Cairo sends their closer Fernando Delgado to the mound. After enticing Manama leadoff hitter Jeff Sherman to hit into a soft grounder things were looking pretty good. That is until Pearls SS Jesus Flores stepped to the plate. Flores wasted no time taking the first pitch he saw and deposited it 383 feet away for an opening day, walk off win.

Cairo 18 Manama 8 BLOWOUT
The Chariot Archers flexed their muscles in the final game of the opening series with Manama to the tune of 18 runs and 23 hits. When you score eight runs and hit four homers you expect to win the game but that was not to be for the Pearls as Cairo RF Aubrey Anderson tied UMEBA single game records with three homers and eight runs batted in. In an attempt to keep up with Anderson his teammate SS Rakim Stevenson clubbed two homers of his own. The game left three Manama pitchers seeking the team trainer for kinked necks as well as ERAs over 15.00.

Mumbai 7 Kuwait City 8 11 INN WALK OFF
Heading to the bottom of the 11th Mumbai and Kuwait City were tied at seven but neither team had scored since the top of the sixth. Normally you would feel good about your closer pitching to the and the bottom half of the lineup coming up but in today's game the bottom of Kuwait City's lineup was on fire and the Metro Stars closer Julio Silva was about to start his second inning of work. To start things off Alhafr CF Weaver Ripley squibbed a 1-0 curveball that didn't even make it out of the infield for a hit. Dh Knud Braams slapped his third hit of the day past the second baseman into right field allowing Ripley to advance to third with no outs. With the infield AND outfield in 2B Raul Alilea looped a single over the head of CF Baden Goulding for the game winning hit. The entire sequence took just eight pitches.

Istanbul 13 Athens 5 BLOWUP
Our first blow up of the year came from Istanbul as Athens may have left their starter in just a little too long. The Fighting Centaurs held a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh but things fell apart as Glenn Johnston fell apart and allowed a run, a walk, and three singles to the first four batters before being replaced by Valke Kiene with runners on second and third and no outs. Kiene would give up three straight singles and four runs before striking out back to back hitters for two outs in the frame. Anastacio Hernandez slammed a three run homer chasing Kiene and sending Holtzen Plotz to the mound now trailing 9-3. Five consecutive singles later and Istanbul had pushed the lead to 12-3 before Sadaharu Oh III grounded into a merciful fielder's choice to finally end the inning. In all the Bosphorus sent 17 men to the plate scoring 11 runs and stranding two. Three players slapped two hits and the only extra base hit was the homer.

Cairo 7 Bucharest 8 11 INN WALK OFF
After allowing five runs in the bottom of the fifth Cairo scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie their game with Bucharest at seven runs each. Closer Fernando Delgado had allowed a leadoff single to 3B Anastacio Diz before getting C William Parker to line out to right field. Cairo then looked to Hector Gallo to finish up taking the ball with one out and one on. Things were looking good when Diaz was thrown out attempting to steal second on Gallo's first pitch to clean up hitter Fernando Renteria. Pitching from the stretch Gallo grooved a 1-0 fastball that Renteria slapped high off the left field foul pole to end the game.

Love seeing proactive writer/GMs. Was considering doing the same, but glad someone else is lol. Kuwait City also had an honorable mention on Opening Day, blowing a 2 run lead going into the 8th inning. Failed to turn a double play and extended the inning allowing it to be tied going into the 9th, where my bullpen continued to crumble and gave up three more runs.
