It's April 7th, bottom of the third as Kuwait pitcher Wayne Mawle faces Jerusalem's Angel Cabanas. Mawle has has a tough inning, having given up a lead-off double and a pair of singles to plate one run--which has not been a rare occurance, as the Hammers were already ahead 14-0 at the beginning of the game. The Alhafr outfielders are looking more than a little ragged. Runners are at first and second.

Wale struggles again, running the count to 3-1 and then mercifully salvaging a full count on a called strike.

That's when a modern miracle of mercy happens.

Cabanas sqings at the next pitch, and hits a screaming line drive to the second baseman's right. He dives and catches it, righting himself in time to flip the ball to the shortstop, who doubles the runner off second. Not to be denied, the shortstop throws a laser beam to first to nab the runner there before he can get back.

And there it is.

This miracle of miracle moments ... a triple play turned by the Kuwait City Alhafrs, the only one of the UMEBA season.

So far, anyway.

This time it's June 13th. Bottom of the sixth this time, but as luck would have it, the pitcher is again Kuwait's Wayne Mawle. Manama's Damien Mayne led off the inninf with a hit, then stole second. A ground ball got him to third base, which is where he is now.

With Jesus Flores at the plate, Mawle throws a strike.

On the second pitch, however, Mayne seems to get the feeling in his feet, and as Mawle winds up he takes off for home plate. The pitch is off-kilter, and Mayne slides in ... safe!

The only successful steal of home in UMEBA play this year!

The Hammers won 5 straight games in the last sim, all by one run. Oh, and we also have the most wins of any team in UMEBA history.

Technically Athens are breaking a record with every win, that being most wins by an expansion team. The first UMEBA season didn't have a full schedule, Manama Pearls held the record with 48 wins in a 79 game schedule.

Record number of runs scored was 1004 by Bucharest in 2041, they beat the previous record by 1 held by Jerusalem in 2038. That record was smashed by both Athens & Jerusalem with 1038, even taking away the extra game it still leaves Athens on 1036, Jerusalem 1034.

Very, very impressive...between that accomplishment and Jouve's 180 turnaround of Baghdad, it made UMEBA GM of the Year voting quite difficult.

Until this season 2 players had 6 hits in a game, this season alone we had 3 Mike Franklin & Fernando Renters both of Bucharest and Luzvimindo Arbizo of Athens.

In the full schedule era a player as hit for the cycle every season, this year it was George Woolridges turn who plays for the Athens Fighting Centaurs.

The UMEBA is still awaiting its first no hitter, we are also awaiting our first 20 win pitcher and our first triple crown winner.

The hitting streak had 7 members before this season, it now as double that at 14. Elijah Curry of the Cairo Chariot Archers BC was one of those that joined the list falling 1 short of over taking Toshio Taguchi who he is tied with on 27.
