UMEBA Facts.

Post by Clayman » Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:08 pm

Please feel free to post any facts about your UMEBA team.

The Athens Fighting Centaurs have yet to be shut out in official games, that's a streak of 90 games. In fact in 114 games including ST they have only been shut out once. The game in question was there second game in ST against Bucharest

I'd actually love it if you were required to post stuff NOT about your team at all, but about any other UMEBA team. I'd rather do that. :)

I was shocked that catcher Hedde Veenman got 22 votes for the All-Star game and Istanbul's Anibal Garcia only got one solitary vote. And I was further shocked that Veenman started the game...yet Garcia was nowhere to be found? Instead, Cairo catcher Bungay Martin made it who got no votes at all!?

Chad you got to look at the little victories, did you know Istanbul (8) have been shut out more times than Kuwait City (7). Your only 15 games behind Jerusalem and Manama, may sound alot but these guys have won 3 United Cups between them. Your only 10 games behind Mumbai, all 3 of these teams have had 5 years head start, 5 years of free agency and 5 years of drafts. Squeeze every drop you can, one silver lining you get first pick in the next draft.

Yeah I'd love to make the play offs, I'd love to win the United Cup but I never intended to in my first season. My intention was to with a bit of luck was to bring in young guys like Carter, Brouchard, MacDonald and Gomez in and get them up to speed while older guys like Saunders, Chavez, Cuervo etc did the donkey work. I'm at a place with Athens I'd have snatched your hand off at the start of the season. Just focus on your team forget about this season, your an expansion team your not meant to win 100 games, if you win say 60 games this season look at what you can do to win 70 next season.

Beirut has the youngest A and AA squads in the UMEBA averaging 17.62 and 22.07 years.

Athens is the oldest A ball squad at 22.30 years.

Istanbul is the oldest AA at 28.30.

Going to take awhile to get younger, only 8 draft rounds this past draft. Personally I'd like the draft to be 16 rounds, 10 at least and a rookie level kicked in.

Kuwait City is 31-47 (.397) since Chad took the team (they were 1-19 before). Nothing Earth shattering, but quite solid for a true build from scratch expansion team.

Patrick Lue, who has since retired, was named the first ever Bancroft Player of the Year in 2038. He had a great season with Jerusalem, smacking 50 homers and a .318 average.

Kings' minor league CF Adib Tahir, currently playing in Single-A Shanghai, was born in Baghdad. He is the only player in all of the UMEBA who is playing for an organization from their home country (or in his case, home town.)

In their 112th game Athens were finally shut out, it did look like the streak was going to continue, top of the 4th Bartolo Gomez had reached 3rd with no outs, sadly none of the 3 hitters could nudge him home.

When I arrived at Cairo the A ball side was largely 28-yr-olds plus so I offered minor league contracts to everybody under 22. About 120 signed on and it took days to figure out which 90 to cut lol

As UMEBA keeps improving, relegation could be kind of interesting in a long, way off possibility.

Wash your mouth out, yeah in European sports we've lived with it for years but not American sports. I used to love Rugby League but lost the love when they got rid of relegation and when they brought relegation back I didnt love it anymore.

Hah! Honestly, I couldn't care less about European or American sports at this point. It is driven only by money and I have better things to spend my time on. But like you say, relegation is a fun idea, and in this arena, maybe only in concept. But I've always been intrigued by it.

Call me a stick in the mud but I like my American sports without relegation, I like my British sports with relegation. However there is a British sport that as relegation that for most of its history didnt, cricket I dont like relegation in that.
