The Walkoff Watch Terminology

Balkoff - When a pitcher balks in the winning run.

Derpoff - When a pitcher walks in the winning run, hits a batter with the bases full, or the winning run scores due to a wild pitch or error.

200-proof walkoff - When the home team scores in the bottom of a previous inning to extend the game and then scores with a walkoff in a subsequent inning.

Buntoff When the team bunts in the walkoff run.

Pimpoff - When the home team scores a walkoff following the visiting team tying the game to cause extra innings (or more extra innings) or scoring what would have been the winning run if the home team hadn’t responded.

Bunt-Pimpoff A pimpoff, but when the batter successfully bunts home the walkoff run.

Player & Team Highlights Sim #19
August 4th – August 10th

24 more games this week and not much action for the walkoff watch. Just one run was scored in the bottom of the ninth all week, and that was inconsequential as Manama were already 8-3 down. Four games were won in the top of the ninth and three went to extras. Two of those were won by multiple runs in the top half of an innings but one finally gave us . . .

Outcomes

On August 7th Manama hosted the Bucharest Impalers in our only important game of the week. Bucharest got on the board first, but the Pearls scored three times in the bottom of the second to lead 3-1. Two in the fourth for the Impalers tied the game up before once more the Pearls took the lead in the next innings. The lead was swapped again in the top of the fifth thanks to two more Bucharest runs, but Manama, once more, managed to tie it in the bottom of the fifth. The game went dead then, four hits were sprinkled over the next four innings, but none counted for anything. Into extras we glided, and Manama took no time at all to sit Bucharest down 1-2-3. Kyle Eston took the mound for the Impalers and quickly gave up two singles. He breathed a sigh of relief as he struck out the third batter, but it was temporary relief. Rhys Nornabell, in only his sixth UMEBA game, stepped up to the plate, he took the first ball and watched as the umpire called the next two strikes. With the count at 1-2 the fourth pitch from Eston squirmed away from the catcher and rolled to the backstop. Both runners advanced to second and third, the winning run was just 90 feet away with only one out. Nornabell hit a squibber next pitch along the ground towards the shortstop but he was back on his heels and by the time he reached it, he had no play. The runner was home from third and Bucharest had conceded their second walkoff of 2041.
