The Walkoff Watch Terminology

Balkoff - When a pitcher balks in the winning run.

Derpoff - When a pitcher walks in the winning run, hits a batter with the bases full, or the winning run scores due to a wild pitch or error.

200-proof walkoff - When the home team scores in the bottom of a previous inning to extend the game and then scores with a walkoff in a subsequent inning.

Buntoff When the team bunts in the walkoff run.

Pimpoff - When the home team scores a walkoff following the visiting team tying the game to cause extra innings (or more extra innings) or scoring what would have been the winning run if the home team hadn’t responded.

Bunt-Pimpoff A pimpoff, but when the batter successfully bunts home the walkoff run.

Player & Team Highlights Sim #15
July 7th-July 13th

Back to a full slate of 24 games this week, but it didn’t help the UMEBA walkoff percentage. The UMEBA teams managed just two runs in the bottom of the ninth and neither resulted in a walkoff. We did however get two walkoffs in the week, both in extra innings as teams gave their fans extra value for their admission fee.

Outcomes

Sunday, 7th July saw the Pearls of Manama enter the ballpark of Beirut. After exchanging runs early on Beirut broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Manama are no pushovers though and by the end of the seventh innings the game was tied at 4-4. No-one could break the deadlock and we went into extras. The Cedars loaded the bases up in the bottom of the 10th but to no avail as the runner from third was thrown out at home for the final out of the innings. Top of the 11th Manama tried a squeeze bunt play but once more the runner failed to make home while Beirut went quietly 1-2-3 in the bottom half. The top of the 12th produced nothing for the Pearls and so it was on to the bottom of the 12th. Ramon Garza was on the mound and the home fans were on their feet as Antonio Baca doubled. He advanced to third on a groundout and Garza walked the next batter. Fernando Ortiz dug into the batters box and with the count at 2-2, he sent the ball skipping straight up the middle and on into centre allowing Baca to stroll home with the winning run.

The next day it’s the turn of the top two walkoff merchants to face off in Romania. Halfway through the visitors from Istanbul hold a 5-1 lead before runs in the bottom of the fifth & sixth close the gap to just two runs. Then the Impalers go wild in the bottom of the seventh, three single, a double and a triple come off their bats in dispersed with two walks see Bucharest send 10 to the batters box, scoring five runs. With the home fans already celebrating the win Istanbul fired back with three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 8-8 and send it to extras. The Bosphorus can’t do anything with two hits in the top of the 10th while Bucharest go quietly in the bottom. In the 11th the Bosphorus go 1-2-3 while Bucharest can’t take advantage of a hit batter & a single. On to the 12th and it’s another 1-2-3 innings for the visitors. Charlie Simmons took the mound for Istanbul in the bottom half but he was soon in trouble as the first batter reached on an error and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Saikaku Aoki stepped up to the plate and drilled the first pitch back up the middle. Bucharest had their sixth walkoff of the season.

I guess that means I am the "luckiest" team so far this season.... which means maybe my lead is not as secure as it appears! Still more than half a season to go.
