Player & Team Highlights Sim #10
June 2nd-June 8th
24 games as always and twice UMEBA teams managed to walkoff a game this week. Honourable mention must go to Cairo though, hosting Bucharest they scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th to close the score to 7-5 and give themselves hope. It wasn’t to be as they could only manage one in the bottom of the ninth.
Outcomes
On June 6th our first walkoff on sim #10 came when Baghdad, bottom of the BURT, hosted Beirut who had slipped to third in the BANC but were only 1 ½ out of the first place they had previously held. After two sixth innings runs Beirut led 2-1 before the Kings levelled in the 7th. Going into the bottom of the ninth Corbin Torres took the mound trying to get the game to extras. An error and a wild pitch got a runner to second with only one out as Vincent Bonin stepped up to the plate. A wild pitch advanced the runner to third before Bonin sent the fifth pitch deep into the outfield to be plucked out of the air by the centrefielder, but too late as the runner comfortably trotted home for Baghdad’s first walkoff of the season.
The second walkoff was on the 8th with The Pearls hosting walkoff kings, Istanbul. For once the Bosphorus, in fact for the first time in 2041, were on the wrong end of the walkoff. Manama came from behind in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at four and Istanbul couldn’t break that in the top of the ninth. Bras Gesteiras, the Brosphorus closer, went to the mound in the bottom half of the innings and struck out the first batter he faced. Next up was Grigory Vojjinsky to the plate, four pitches later he deposited the ball 417ft over the fence in left centrefield and Istanbul had allowed their first walkoff.
