The Walkoff Watch Terminology

Balkoff - When a pitcher balks in the winning run.

Derpoff - When a pitcher walks in the winning run, hits a batter with the bases full, or the winning run scores due to a wild pitch or error.

200-proof walkoff - When the home team scores in the bottom of a previous inning to extend the game and then scores with a walkoff in a subsequent inning.

Buntoff When the team bunts in the walkoff run.

Pimpoff - When the home team scores a walkoff following the visiting team tying the game to cause extra innings (or more extra innings) or scoring what would have been the winning run if the home team hadn’t responded.

Bunt-Pimpoff A pimpoff, but when the batter successfully bunts home the walkoff run.

Player & Team Highlights Sim #8
May 19th-May 24th

Time waits for no man and the UMEBA dashed of another 24 games this week. Only one of those 24 went to extras and that was the first of our three walkoffs this sim, and the only one not by walkoff kings Istanbul who added another two to their tally. Those Bosphorus boys sure hang in there till the end.

Outcomes

On May 20th Bagdad went to Manama, when the Pearls tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth everyone expected the home side to take the bottom side to the cleaners but it didn’t happen. The two teams had managed six and a half scoreless innings when we arrived at the bottom of the 11th. Bagdad hadn’t learnt from previous escapades and ran old shaky Lucas Meech out to the mound. He grinned as he got his first batter to ground out the third, but stared in disbelief as the second batter, Jesus Flores grabbed his next pitch and slung it 363ft over the left-centre fence for the game winner. Meech had given up his third walkoff.
The same day saw walkoff kings Istanbul entertain Cairo. The Chariot Archers were 5-0 up in the middle of the sixth inning before the Bosphorus plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The home fans were on their feet now and they weren’t disappointed. A run in the 7th & 8th saw them enter the bottom of the ninth tied at five. Cairo’s closer Caleb Benavides hung in there through two long AB’s to strike out the first two Bosphorus offerings. On six pitches he walked the third batter. When Bai-luo Jiu walked to the plate Benavides had already thrown 19 pitches in the innings, two more went for balls and another was fouled off as he started breathing hard. Fourth pitch Jiu hit a line drive hard into deep left and the runner at first legged it safely all the way home as Jiu pulled up at second. Another multi-Hero as Jiu collects his third walkoff, his first 200 proof walkoff though.
The final walkoff of the sim came on the next day as Cairo continued their series in Istanbul. Bottom of the fifth and the Bosphorus once more came back to tie it all up at four. Nobody could break the deadlock and the bottom of the ninth arrived with the home fans knowing what was coming. Lefty Francisco Quintana came out for his second innings of work and took seven pitches to get the first batter to ground out to first. Hector Correa strode to the plate and three pitches later a fan in the right field bleachers was jumping up and down holding his beer in one hand and the ball in the other. The sixth 2041 walkoff for Istanbul !
