Possible BANC All Star Game Candidates

All Star Candidates – BANC

With about a month to go before the 2041 UMEBA All Star Game here’s a look at possible candidates for the BANC starting lineup. Listed are the top players for each position in the BANC so far ranked by WAR gained, let’s see how close this lineup is come June 30th?

C Antonio Robles (Jerusalem – 1.0 WAR) Antonio won the 2040 UMEBA BANC Platinum Stick Award at C and the 2040 UMEBA BANC Great Glove Award at C. He’s got 12 homers & 26 RBI already this year and is the only BANC catcher with 1.0 WAR.

1B Leonardo Martinez (Jerusalem - 1.9 WAR) Leonardo is another ball masher, 16 homers & 44 RBI in 45 games. Another 2040 UMEBA BANC Platinum Stick Award and 2040 All Star, he also has a United Cup winners medel from last year.

2B Juan Carlos Ortiz (Jerusalem – 1.7 WAR) With Juan Carlos being Jerusalem’s third selection already it must give them hope that they might return to form soon. He split 2040 between Triple-A & the UMEBA but seems a cert to stick in the bigs this year. A class defender at second with a range factor over 5.00, he also helps his team at the plate with a 2041 OBP of .429.

3B Youp Lenior (Jerusalem – 1.4 WAR) Looks like the 2041 ASG might be Jerusalem versus the BURT. Youp collected a 2040 ASG appearance, a United Cup winners medal and a Platinum Stick award at 3B during 2040. 15 homers & 27 RBI gives an idea of what power he brings to the table but he can hit for average too as a triple slash of .309/.393/.600 proves.

SS Baltasar Fronteiro (Mumbai – 1.2 WAR) In a shock non-Jerusalem inclusion 34-yr-old Baltasar shows he can still flash the leather. A 2040 ASG participant, he has generally improved his defence in 2041, but worryingly he has committed five errors already. He can use his bat too with 12 homers & 27 RBI in 2041.

LF Pierre Cordona (Beirut – 1.6 WAR) Pierre appeared in the 2040 All Star game and is certainly hitting the ball this year at .367/.430/.523. Fast on the base paths he has stolen five out of five attempts as well as scoring 29 times.

CF Maximo Quezada Beirut – 1.9 WAR) Maximo arrived in 2039 from Louisville via Bucharest and picked up the 2040 BANC Great Glove award at CF. A defensive genius throughout his career he’s showing a bit better range in the outfield this year and a healthy 3.4 ZR already. His batwork has picked up from his BBA days and he has 14 homers & 38 RBI so far in 2041. In common with Beirut’s other OF ASG candidate he has a turn of speed and is 8 for 8 in stolen base attempts.

RF Robert Gowron (Mumbai – 1.7 WAR) Robert is another masher, he’s got 17 homers and 42 RBI to his name in the first six weeks. He went to the 2040 ASG and won the Platinum Stick award at RF too, he has speed but tends not to use it for stealing bases. He only has two swiped bags so far in 2041, but has legged out three triples, the second highest UMEBA total.

SP Mateus Rabisca (Bucharest – 1.7 WAR) Mateus has the most WAR gained by a UMEBA pitcher in 2041 so far but if selected won’t be making a personal appearance as he suffered a torn labrum on May 3rd and won’t be back playing till early August at best. In seven starts he has a 4-0 record and has struck out 36 batters in 39.2 IP while only walking one. He has a .429 QS% and a 0.91 WHIP

RP Aldo Hes (Jerusalem – 0.9 WAR) Aldo has nine years of BBA experience with Louisville & Wichita, finishing in 2039. He added a United Cup winners medal last year with the Hebrew Hammers. In 19 outings in 2041 he has a 1-0 record with five saves, he’s only walked 3 batters while striking out 26 in his 33 IP.

CL Corbin Torres (Beirut – 0.8 WAR) Beirut released him at the end of 2040 but are probably glad now they picked him back up in free agency. In 17 outings he has a 1-1 record and has converted 13 out of 13 save opportunities. Batters are only hitting .188 against him and he has a 4.3 K/BB ratio.

Looks a pretty solid lineup as the UMEBA goes and although it pains me to say it I feel it could be a pretty convincing BANC win this year round
