The Walkoff Watch Terminology

Balkoff - When a pitcher balks in the winning run.

Derpoff - When a pitcher walks in the winning run, hits a batter with the bases full, or the winning run scores due to a wild pitch or error.

200-proof walkoff - When the home team scores in the bottom of a previous inning to extend the game and then scores with a walkoff in a subsequent inning.

Buntoff When the team bunts in the walkoff run.

Pimpoff - When the home team scores a walkoff following the visiting team tying the game to cause extra innings (or more extra innings) or scoring what would have been the winning run if the home team hadn’t responded.

Bunt-Pimpoff A pimpoff, but when the batter successfully bunts home the walkoff run.

Player & Team Highlights Sim #7
May 12th-May 18th

Another 24 games in the books this week and it’s back to the normal low walkoff levels. Cairo put up a 7-spot in the ninth and Manama managed a 5-spot, but both were in the top of the innings so didn’t count for our purposes. Just one of the 24 ended in walkoff glory and it was our old Scummy friends, Istanbul. They successfully managed their league-leading fourth walkoff.

Outcomes

On May 14th Istanbul, top of the BURT, entertained the bottom side, Bagdad. The Kings were on a four-game losing streak and had just lost the last two games to the Bosphorus by a 10-1 aggregate. Three errors by the home side had led to Istanbul entering the bottom of the ninth down by the surprising scoreline of 4-8. Old shaky Lucas Meech was on the mound trying to close the game out but giving up a solo homer to the first batter wasn’t perhaps the right way. A single and a walk later he served up a gopher ball to the pinch-hitting Bai-luo Jiu and the outfield watched it sail over the deep left centre wall, the 3-run shot had tied the game at 8-8. That knocked Meech out the game in favour of Nicholas Vankrimpen, but although Istanbul got another single and a walk, they couldn’t breakthrough again, sending the game into extras.
In the top of the 10th the Bosphorus tried to make it hard, issuing three walks, but mixing that in with just the right number of strikeouts to keep the Kings off the board. Vankrimpen came out in the bottom of the tenth, but Istanbul were roaring like a freight train, jumping on everything. The Bosphorus first batter popped the first ball up to shallow centre and Jose Lopez stepped into the batters box. He took an almighty heave at Vankrimpen’s next ball . . . and those fans in deep left centre got another souvenir. The UMEBA’s second 200-proof walkoff of 2041.
