HOF Talk: Alexander Julyan

Gilstrom in 2043, Zimmer in 2051, five times in the All-Star game. Julyan had a more than solid career. He hit 359 homers and stole 169 bases (though his CS percent was not good). His profile is interesting in that he started “late” … truly breaking in at age 24, and was actually quite good through age 35.

Bill James once did a study that showed one of the best predictors of whether a guy would make the Hall was what age he started his career at, and that most true Hall of Famers started at age 20-22. I can see that here. If Julyan had two or three more scintillating seasons at the front end, he’d be a much stronger candidate. Alas, he has 40 WAR, not 55.
