HOF Talk: Júlio Barajas

Post by RonCo » Wed Jul 03, 2024 12:01 am

Is Júlio Barajas a Hall of Famer.

Guy won three rings, right? He’s a winner. Mainstay with big time Rockville teams. 69 WAR, mostly in the corner outfield slots, where, to put it mildly, he could not defend.

Imagine what those WAR numbers would be if he could.

But we digress. The HoF is not about what could have been. It’s about what was. And Júlio Barajas was a very, very good, if flawed player. Five-time All-Star. Four time Puckett. 500 HR. Look up “professional hitter” and you get a pitcher of Júlio Barajas. A look at his comps show Hall of Famers here and there.

So, is Júlio Barajas a Hall of Famer?

I’m leaning to a yes, but I’m not sure. We’re going to find out, though. One way or the other.

Was close, but I gave him the nod.

I say yes. Stayed in one place, won rings, ton of hits. Some strong postseason numbers too.

Career .326/.377/.546 hitter shows the quality. 3,416 career hits shows the quantity. Pretty easy yes here, fellas.

3400 hits and 500 homers. This shouldn't be a debate. Yes

He got the tie breaker by having a HOF number of 69.

I make no apologies for this.

YES. WAR doesn't penalize pitchers for not being able to hit. You want to leave a guy off some All-Time Greats Starting Lineup because he can't field? I don't blame you, but offensive consistency like Barajas provided can't be denied.
