# Here's a guy who was a hard-nosed bonafide big league hitter, whose candidacy might be hindered by spending most of his career toiling away in Des Moines obscurity. He finished with 53.6 WAR--which isn't huge relative to other 1B, but would be 20 more than Rhodes (sensing a theme?). His 561 HR are a solid number in an offensive era, his 1,428 RBI are a bigish number, though plays to narrative rather than domination. Perhaps his biggest case are JAWS and the standards, where he does well. So, what say you? Is William Moreland a HoFer?

Bunk's metrics suggest he's a Hall of Famer. Let's see what the voters say this year after a disappointing first year on the ballot.

561 homers is a LOT. It's right around the what the idea of 500 homers is in real life. But unlike real life, we have a 561 homer guy who only hit 345 doubles. That's not realistic, and it's why Bunk's WAR is only 53.6. If we didn't have a video game cranking out very unlikely/borderline impossible players, Moreland would have 500 doubles to go with his 561 homers, and would easily have 60-65 WAR, and be a no brainer.

But he didn't have those doubles. So he was really not as good as what our brains are set to think of when we think "561 homers" or "500 homers" in the MLB scale of things. I wouldn't be too upset if he got in. but I also wouldn't mind if he didn't. I don't think I'll vote for him, but I could change my mind in the future.

Good metrics and 500+ HR's should get you in.

After steady progress, Moreland's candidacy seemed to stall this past year. WiIl 2048 see a kick-start?

I think if he'd started his career outside Des Moines, he'd be in. Or, I think if DM would have found a little magic in one of those Arreola years, he'd be in, too. He's a yes for me.
