# Steady, reliable, professional, Dan Leonard showed up and played well enough to finish with 2800 hits and ran well enough to finish with over 400 SB. I'll let Randy come along and say how often that's happened. It won't be many. Leonard, as a first baseman who could run, also had the honor of leading the league in triples a couple seasons. He was a stalwart on a lot of really good Calgary teams, then, after a brief sting in the San Antonio sunshine, returned to Canada for a 50 game stint.

Here's one that deserves a close look, just on the basis of his uniqueness.

I assume all are in the Hall other than those on the ballot and currently playing?

that would be correct. Soriano/Leonard on the ballot, Gillstrom/Dempsey still playing. That being said, I think Steve Dempsey has an uphill slog to the HOF and both Leonard and Soriano have been on the ballot multiple times.

Really wish Dan had gotten his 3000 hits. He is not your typical first baseman as he was a speed guy instead of power. He gets my Calgary vote, but understand if others disagree.

The 2800+/400+ list makes him more interesting but I'm probably still a no.

Agree with Kevin. His chances would look drastically different with 3,000 hits.

Leonard was removed from the ballot due to size constraints in previous seasons. He'll return this year.

Leonard's case was delayed a season due to class size. His return to the ballot saw him regain his original support. We'll see if his fifth full season will see him increase that base.
