I hear that he hasn't won any awards since he retired. What a bum.

I've just done some checking, and it turns out no player has won any awards after they retired.

So, given that, I think that the the Nebraska's he won while playing are very significant.

Vote LaLoosn!

I guess Gail Sayers isn't in your HOF either ;) Too short of a career?

either him or peter grady for me, since grady is the first wave of the new "super reliever" to show up on the ballot.

The difficult thing for me is that yes he has three Nebraskas, but from a stats point he wasn't nearly as dominant as what I'd expect out of a multiple Nebraska winner. He only stuck out 200 batters 4 times. (3 of them in his Nebraska years). Only had a sub 3 era twice. Career ERA is a good but not "Screams hall of fame" 3.67.

You'd think a guy that supposedly had peak as high as Laloosh would have a "peakier" peak. He has an awards peak, but if we're making a peak case, shouldn't there be some 7-8 win seasons? Should there be some years you look at and go, "Holy crap!"

Would it have helped him to not pitch at all after 31? Should htat matter? His bad years kill his rate based stats. But he did pitch them. It's not like we cut the bad years off for guys that just stuck around too long at a later age.

I'd be interested to see who Laloosh won those Nebraskas against. Is this the reverse of Cisco Geurrero's lack of sluggers, who probably should have gotten 2 or 3 that he didn't?

I'm not saying this is the case. My memory is that Laloosh was legitimately a top pitcher for his peak, and earned those awards. But the numbers sure as heck don't look like it. Am I remembering incorrectly?

So I looked while typing this up. There's a weird multi year depression in WAR for the Nebraska winner during the 5 years Laloosh won his 3. Not conclusive, but it may demonstrate that pitching was either weak then or it was just hard to pitch. Offense was on the rise by that time, but not really at peak levels, judging by league ERA.

It feels wrong to not vote for a guy who was the top pitcher 3 times and got smoked by injury badly enough that it wiped out his 30's when he was clearly on a Hall of fame track. But it also feels weird to look at his raw stats and see a 3 time Nebraska winner. Just strange that this is even a discussion.

I feel like strikeouts were lower during LaLoosh's peak, but I may be wrong.

The numbers change. I don't think pitchers were as dominant during that time period (and I see you noticed it). His K/9 was still over 8. I cant imagine we have many 3 time Nebraska winners. I'd also think they're all in the HOF. I'm going to look now.
