Here's the place to talk about the career of: Juan Castillo

Hhmm, another four time best hitter.
And he's a catcher.
Still, the career numbers say no.

Nope. Hurley Reyes isn't in and he's always been my test case for catchers. Castillo isn't better than Reyes.

Juan Castillo received 14% of the vote last year, just enough to stay on the ballot.

Randy you pointed out lat year that there really isn't much of an argument for voting for Weiss and not for Castillo. And here's Chris with Hurley Reyes again, who is an excellent comp. Who I also think might belong in the hall. Ugh this is tough.

It's like there's this weird 55 WAR plateau for catchers. They all cap there, and if you put one in you have to put them all in, and it just feels like too many. But the alternative is to have no catcher get in except "inner circle" guys.

10.4% of the vote last year, barely hanging on. Five seasons of eligibility left.

If he got to 2000+ hits and/or 400 HR's, this probably isn't much of a discussion. I'm also saying that without looking at the C's in now and the one's who are close like him. I'm thinking no.

His JAWS standard puts him smack on the average of what a HoF catcher looks like.

I would be more likely to vote in Castillo that Scholes honestly, however this is a no from me as well.

Here is the stat breakdown of Juan Castillo compared to all catchers (both individually and against the total mean). Players are sorted by total JAWS score, and any bolded names are on the HOF ballot this year. The mean listed does NOT include anyone on the ballot, just guys who have actually been elected to the HOF.
