Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
Here's the place to talk about the career of: Eduardo Lopez
Starting Pitcher
Active Career: 2021-2035 (15 seasons)
196-99, 3.32 ERA, 2787 K, 62.2 WAR
Joe Gillstrom Rookie of the Year: 2021
6-Time All-Star
Hall of Fame Metrics: (average HoF)
JAWS: 58.9 (72)
Black Ink: 32 (34)
Gray Ink: 193 (162)
HOF Standards: 48 (49)
HOF Monitor: 137 (125)
# Eduardo Lopez might be the best pitcher to never win a Nebraska, having been in the top three for vote getters four times. He started his career in Europe, going 62-33 and winning two Victor Paez awards (the EBA Nebraska equivalent) there. He led Indy for several seasons before dominating at times in YEllow Springs. His Standards numbers already show his case is strong as is, but people close to him often dream of what those number could have been if he'd some to the big leagues a couple seasons earlier. Add in the fact that a big injury cut him down at age 35, and well...you get the rest.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
Initially, I would of said no. But looking at his numbers, his HOF metrics, and taking into account his EBA career, I think he's a yes for me. Maybe not first ballot. But he should probably be in.

Your mileage can vary, but I saw him pitch close up. I will be voting for all the Eduardo Lopez. Note that it's not just his wins...Lopez lost only 99 games. A true stopper and guard against losing streaks in the rotation.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
It's a no. Definitely had a very good run there at one point. If you were basing it off that short run then perhaps he's a yes. I know I compare some of my older guys to these guys now but it's the best basis i have for comparison of Yes and No. He looks similar to Jessie Wright. A guy who won some awards, made some all-star games, but was not dominant long enough or posted enough career numbers to get in.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
Lopez was a 5-6 win pitcher until age 35. That's pretty damn remarkable. He may not have had the peak years of some of the others on this ballot, but he's up against some pretty good competition. The other notable thing about him is that he just didn't give up home runs. At all. For his entire career.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
I was only around for his flop in ATC, but looking back on his whole career I would put him just barely over the bar. He is a guy that will be helped by the new format.

I am voting for Eduardo Lopez even though he turned his back on me for all that filthy Atlantic City money.

Good lord he's tough. Right on the edge. Definitely not in if you are a small hall guy. A yes if you're a big hall guy. I think I voted for him last year and will probably do so again.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
I’d vote for him
Incidentally
Is jack morris in the HOF yet?
People poo poo him, but he started 14 consecutive Opening Days
Wrap your head around that
And if you saw him on a regular basis
You wouldn’t poo poo him
Fuck the nimbers

As noted earlier, I'll vote for him. He fell of the edge a little early, but man, he was very, very good...

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
Here is the stat breakdown of Eduardo Lopez compared to all starting pitchers on the ballot this year (both individually and against the total mean). Players are sorted by total JAWS score. The mean listed does NOT include anyone on the ballot, just guys who have actually been elected to the HOF (and are not named Steve Nebraska).

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
I'm going to keep vothing for Lopez. I think he's the bottom end of what should get in, but he still think he should. Randy's handy dandy chart comparing him to average is pretty red, but I bet it's be kind of pink if were had shades of color. The bar for HOF pitching is just really damn high. I wouldn't mind if going down a smidge.

At 35% last year, Eduardo Lopez received only half of what he deserved. You can do better.
He has three seasons left.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Eduardo Lopez
Eduardo Lopez has been rock-solid in the high 30s and low 40s since he hit the ballot. He has one more season left on the ballot.
