Yes...but if he'd played 1B his whole career, his WAR would have dropped.

How much? He won 4 Zimmers there and was a defensive machine which would help prop his WAR. He kept posting 4s there after I moved him off of 2B. How much does defense prop up or drag down WAR?

I dunno in the end. The defensive position adjustment of WAR from 2B to 1B is 15 runs, or about 1.5 WAR, I 'd guess...per season. But his advanced glove would get him some of that back. To be pedantic, this is due to the "Plays" data that I post often. 1B get considerably fewer plays/opportunities than a 2B, who get fewer than a SS. So a great 1B glove is probably not as worthy as a workable 2B glove in raw impact.

Bottom line--to put up big WAR as a 1B, you have to bring the lumber.

If you cut Juan Pablo's WAR by 7 or 8 (a half a win per season?), and put him on the 1B list he looks a lot like Rafael BIdo with better contact, but without the power.

So it's an interesting case to think about.

Juan Pablo received 29% of the vote last time. He has three seasons remaining.

If he was a better 2B, he's a lock. Even though he played there more, to me, he's a 1B. And that knocks him down for me. Damn fine hitter though.
I'll just use this again. If he would of gotten to 3000 hits, I probably wouldn't have this take.

Juan Pablo hung in at 14% last year. This is his last season on the ballot.

Many apologies...Pablo has one more year after this season.

Crap...I was right the first time. This is his last rodeo.
