Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Antonio Sanchez

Post by RonCo » Mon Aug 27, 2018 6:55 pm

Here's the place to talk about the career of:

Antonio Sanchez
Image
First Base

Active Career: 2018-2035 (20 seasons)
2561 hits, 583 HR, 1768 RBI, .265/.374/.497 56 WAR
Landis Champion: 2022
Sawyer Silk Award: 2024
3-Time Charles Pucket Golden Bat
2-time Doubleday Series MVP
5-Time All-Star

Hall of Fame Metrics: (average HoF)
JAWS: 46.5 (55)
Black Ink: 17 (22)
Gray Ink: 145 (105)
HOF Standards: 51 (53)
HOF Monitor: 103 (123)
# An absolutely deadly bat for Atlantic City. Low average, good discipline. His peak was not particularly peaky, his fall-off wasn't pretty, and his standards are all over the map, but there are those 583 homers to deal with. Interesting candidate.

IT's guys like Sanchez as to why Zebediah Williams should be in.

why does Sanchez get an automatic bid with average stats but a ton of homeruns when Williams is looked down on somewhat despite being the all-time steals leader?

I think Sanchez gets in bases solely off the HR total but I'm not so convinced he's a hall of famer.

Zebediah Williams has a better overall case, given he was a Double Zimmer winner and a fairly solid all-around offensive player as well as dominating in his area of specialization. The WAR totals of the two represent that.

Bumping this thread because Sanchez remains on the ballot. He received 71% of the vote last year, just missing the cut off.
