Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Mingo Boone

Post by RonCo » Mon Aug 27, 2018 4:49 pm

Here's the place to talk about the career of:

Mingo Boone
Image
Starting Pitcher

Active Career: 2016-2034 (19 seasons)
239-156, 3.58 ERA, 2865 K, 73.2 WAR
Landis Champion: 2022
Nebraska Award: 2021, 2026
6-Time All-Star
Comeback Player of the Year: 2030

Hall of Fame Metrics: (average HoF)
JAWS: 61 (72)
Black Ink: 17 (34)
Gray Ink: 166 (162)
HOF Standards: 48 (49)
HOF Monitor: 112 (125)
# Boone broke in with five solid seasons in Yellow Springs, but found his fame in Atlantic City, winning 24 games and a Nebraska in 2021 and a Landis in 2022 before playing out the final few seasons in Vegas and Des Moines. One of the more feared pitchers in the leauge, though an elbow injury at age 36 (2029) actually cut his numbers shorter than what they might have been.

Yes, assuming he didn't really lose 1,567 games

Good year for pitchers. If we keep the same system as the past there is going to be at least one great candidate left out as I don't see 4 getting in with that system.

Like Randy said, good year for SP's. Probably a yes. Will be interesting how I rank these guys come ballot time.

I would have thought he'd be more borderline.

I think he is borderline. Short of 3,000 Ks. His WAR is just 41st all-time and he's 34th in career strikeouts.

Looks similar to a Rasmussen guy who never got in to me. He'll probably be a close No for me.

Still thinking about him. Two Nebraskas and a pretty solid set of standards metrics are edging me toward yes. May vote him just to keep him on the ballot? Dunno.

Bumping for continued eligibility. Boone received 68% of votes last year.
