Freitas broke in with Montreal and ended his caree in Huntsville. He was always very good, but rarely breathtaking. His 14-9, 2.52 ERA with Montreal was good for 7/1 WAR. Went out at age 35 with solid season, but hung them up then. Would be interesting to see where he owuld have ended up with another couple seasons.

no and dont see this one as particularly close. Would be surprised to see him on the ballot frankly.

Agreed. With those numbers, he’d have to have a couple Nebraska’s for me to even consider him.

Look, the guy was good. Scary good. Even at age 35. I remember he was part of the Stever program as I was coming into the league, and you just knew he was going to win bunch. And he was good for _his entire career_. No fade. None at all.

The problem, though, is he broke in late--at age 25 rather than 21 or 22 or 23. And he quit early at 35 rather than whatever. Add four more seasons and you get 200 wins and 2500Ks and the counting numbers start to look pretty great. Anyone who wonders why he's on the ballot never freaking faced him. :)

Of course, you can't just add seasons onto a career like that, and that's the problem. The only guys who get in with a self-shortened career like that are people named Koufax.

So, no.

I deeply respected Freitas as an opponent and I could see Huntsville in particular inducting him into their Hall, but I don't think I can vote for him in the big one.

Close, but no. I think the consistency is vastly underrated by everyone here. Dude was ALWAYS considerably better than league average, from his rookie year to his last. But I do see the arguments about longevity, and they hurt his chances significantly.
