A closer is the only player in the MLB to have a unanimous vote. :)

I voted for him before, I'll vote for him again. At the end of the day, I certainly agree that racking up a bunch of saves one year or a few is not a standard unto itself, but when you rack them up year after year and your sidecar numbers are great...well...not every save happens when you come in with a three-run lead and coast to it...so when the numbers pile up, that's a lot of high-leverage innings you pitched.

In other words, there comes a time when saves begin to tell a useful enough story.

How many times would you say: "Well, I would vote for the guy, but he got too many saves for my taste."

Guy deserves to be in for his performance and his role as the first big budget busting Rule 6 guy.

I think that's a cool take, and something I may be missing in my over-analysis of metric. That story is important.

Closers are tough for me.

He had a dominating career and in 2010-2012 he missed quite a few save opportunities. His strikeout to walk ratio is impressive and is his WHIP and FIP. I think I am going to actually vote him in. I hesitated, but I think he deserves to be in.

Here is the stat breakdown of Lionel Sanguinacco compared to all relief pitchers (both individually and against the total mean). Players are sorted by total JAWS score, and any bolded names are on the HOF ballot this year. The mean listed does NOT include anyone on the ballot, just guys who have actually been elected to the HOF.

Deserves to be in. Will have my vote again. Randy's table shows where he sits pretty well.

After being over 50% at one time, Saguinacco received only 29% last year. He has two seasons remaining.
