If Glendenning isn't a Hall of Famer, then I'm not sure what is.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Skip Glendenning
THis crap where the cards or retired players link to hitting stats needs to stop. Is this an OOTP thing? Is it a game setting we have wrong?

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Skip Glendenning
The podcast conversation on Saves is always an interesting one (and other counting stats). I get the idea of the modern day save being "easier" thatn the old days. But the fact is that the game changed. And if a guy gets 50 saves one year (with 20 of them being "easy") that still means the guy got 30 saves in tough and important situations.
And then, if he got 500 (or whatever) saves, he got a ton of important saves.
It seems weird to penalize a guy because the job changed. If he was the best at his job, he was the best at his job.
Shrug. /philosophy off

Glendenning was very high on my ballot last year, FWIW.

Change the name of the closer award to the Skip Glendenning Award and he’s a lock to get in.

Re: Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Skip Glendenning
I get the joke.
Although I did think Gunga did belong in just for setting the standard for number of saves (425) which stood for a long time. Now he wouldn't get in.
And judging from the OP in this thread, someone has forgotten the name of the new standard bearer, who is not "Joe" Egan.
Although I suppose that might just be a Freudian slip.

I've always been a little jaded or hard core on the HOF votes for relievers. Considering we voted Gunga in as a league but not Marco for being the first to 500 always left a bad taste in my mouth.
I think outside of Egan I have refused to vote a reliever very high on my ballot.

Hey, I make a few mistakes here and there.scottsdale_joe wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 8:04 amAnd judging from the OP in this thread, someone has forgotten the name of the new standard bearer, who is not "Joe" Egan.
Regardless, Glendenning will either be a solid yes, or super-high on my ballot again. 13 AS games, four Egans (whoever). Just say yes.
