In the current age of ironmen relievers pushing their season-long totals to 175 innings or more, Grady was ahead of his time, the first modern “relief ace.” Grady finished his career with 303 saves and did it by pitching more than 150 innings in a season six times, including a whopping 210 innings (103 appearances!) in 2038, his third Egan-winning season. Aside from appearances, of which he led the league seven times, Grady’s only other sign of dominance was leading the league in saves in 2034 (50), but his contributions spanned beyond saves, as his four Reliever of the Year Awards can testify to. He ushered in a type of player now found common in the league long before it was in style; Peter Grady, pioneer.
