Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
I mean, if you're telling me Aaron is dominating the league--or Tyler or Randy--because of all their copious free time, I'd guess they'd chuckle a bit. We have some interesting rules that make our game a bit complex, so it's good to be always talking about them. I personally think these are interest...

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
I've been a small revenue team in this league. I understand the dynamics of the system. There are times to use various tools, and times not too. That doesn't make the tools good or evil.

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
Many of the have vs have nots arguements only focus on economics. There’s another really big factor that doesn’t get talked about enough. Time. While I agree that in theory any and all teams “can” use this (and other mechanisms), many teams won’t be able to do so. Not everyone has that kind of free...

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
I should also note in the quick study, the expenses register assumes none of my players with bonuses win awards or go to the all-star game, which, if I'm winning a ton, is not likely to happen...so add possibly a million or three to the expense side, which adds to the "must perform" aspect of the st...

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
It's a dangerous overall strategy, but useful in the right place. Owners cannot veto trades. While this is true, owners can protest a trade to the GB and they can decide on whether or not to veto it. By owners, I mean OOTP owners--who will veto other standard ways to spend past cap or budget.

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
It's a dangerous overall strategy, but useful in the right place. And note, too, that every team in the league that has bonus funds can actually do this by trading for players past their owner's budget. Owners cannot veto trades. So, while it would create possible angst for small revenue teams...it'...

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
Here's some back-of-the napkin math on how the system in the rules today plays out (again, I admire the BBA's design here because, on purpose or not, it gives GMs an interesting game theory to play with--with possible benefits and possible consequences--but I'm not doing this to either support it or...

Re: Crusaders Looking to Add 5.1 Million in Salary
I don't see why that's controversial at all. It's a viable strategy, and a lot of teams could use it. Every team, really (as Alan has shown us, it's doable to spend past budget). If you do the full math, you'll see that there are risks with this strategy, as there are with all strategies. Meh. At th...

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
I could see it either way. Drew is an elite LF today and can be taught to be an elite RF. He can be an above average 2B...and should be taught that, too. So I think his flexibility is a bigish deal overall.

Re: Montreal/Omaha
Yep. Omaha was $6M over last sim, so they've already been accounted with $1.1M in fines. Running a little over cap and burning bonus funds is workable plan, but it can't be run for very long. It's not the best way to use your bonus funds... And a majority of the league doesn't have a gajillion $ of ...

Re: Montreal/Omaha
Technically, Omaha can be over cap as long as they pay the fine. Which will be pretty extreme at this point, but I suspect Justin will find a way.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
It will be interesting to see how Rice and Drew's careers play out. Drew is a RHB with more power and patience. And he can possibly actually play 2B. Rice is better in CF, but if he loses an edge there, Drew could wind up being more valuable, even with Rice as a LHB. Rice get's the nod right now for...

9-News: 38.038 – Ginn Growing Up?
Young OF Blasting BBA Pitching [/color] After a fitful first few seasons, some are wondering if 24-year-old BBA veteran and Yellow Springs outfielder John Ginn is finally finding his place in life. He came to the club with an acknowledged head-case after wearing out his welcome in Des Moines when h...
