Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter

I don't think Drew would've been absurd at #10. It's been discussed ad nauseum the liklihood of a high expected attrition rate in this draft class, so there is something pretty enticing about taking a "sure thing" with lesser potential.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter

I can't believe that Todd Rice made it to Seattle. In a draft full of high upside but raw as can be corner OF's and DH's, here's a 19 year old lefty plus defending contact/gap power machine CF who could be an emergency player in the bigs right now, and probably be able to be a regular next season. ...

Sometimes I just get into super know-it-all mode.
The "E" in "engineer" stands for "ehhhh... that's probably good enough". Broad stroke generalizations and hand waive estimating is just my way.

Wow, Ted, you must have been salty that I didn't take your "I hate having fun drafts" bait from the other thread and needed to vent. :P

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter

I'm really loving the well developed prospects this year. I miss the "college vs. high school" debates of old since we switched to this all teenager draft pool. I hope that's a trend that continues.

I don't worry too, too much about control in a RP. Very excited about seeing Archer continue to develop.

Can't wait to read your first round overview this year. :)
This 10 contact, 10 power prospect is really good.

And so is this one.

And this one.

And... these other ones.

Re: Compensation Pick Rule Change (Relievers)

Thanks for the mis-reading point out, bcs - I get his point now. Kyle, while I agree with some of what you said, a 3.2 WAR player is not an all star. That's a solidly above average starting position player The FA comp threshold for Type A batters is 15%. Let's assume all 30 teams have 12 position pl...

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter

If anyone wants to PM me the in-game demands/signability for: Pedro Guzman Ernesto Souza Manobu Shimizu Pedro Bustamante Marvin Ishworth I can probably keep from holding the draft up too much. I know signaiblity is different for each team but I'll go with it. If not, it'll be late tonight before I ...

Re: Compensation Pick Rule Change (Relievers)

Second, I don't think this makes any sense. Why aren't elite relievers worth Type A comp picks, while barely above average hitters (3.2 WAR was the type A cut-off) are? 3.2 WAR is significantly better than 'above average'. I think having a really good team for a really long time is seriously skewin...

Re: A Rookie Per Team- April 2038

Reyes has had a weird start to the season. A sub-5 FIP is pretty alright for an underdeveloped rookie, but the ERA is sky high. In his 5 games he had 1 true clunker (his first start), 2 poor games and 2 pretty elite games. It's no secret that I'm looking to add a SP, but, honestly, Reyes wouldn't be...

Gosh, they must really suck to have never had a 5+ season long streak of playoff appearances in their *checks notebook* 3 seasons in existence.

Re: IMPORTANT: OOTP 20 and Expansion to 32 Teams

I'm not so sure that expansion is even the biggest cause of what i consider to be a class split among the teams into three pretty clear tiers. (Always in contention, sometimes in contention, never in contention). I think these groups stay fairly consistent over any given 10 year stretch. The bigges...

Re: Compensation Pick Rule Change (Relievers)

I'm still on the fence about dropping comp picks, but in the midst of discussing its cons, one pro. It theoretically helps bad teams get better value in trades. If you know you can get a 65 POT prospect in the supplemental first round by simply letting your 26 year old all star walk at the end of th...

This was a very good move, imo. Elite closers = good 3rd rotation SP in my book, and they both seem like Type B value. Kudos.

Re: IMPORTANT: OOTP 20 and Expansion to 32 Teams

When a guy like Stever, who is above average in this group is hitting a wall, it makes me wonder if we've made it too hard to turn a franchise around. I don't think that's a great barometer. For one, I'm not as in the weeds as I have been in the past (evidenced by my sparse writing during this tenu...
