Re: Jacksonville/Charlotte Trade

Confirmed. Call up Kevin Shepard and generate a bullpen. Put Zheng into AAA and I’ll figure out Gonzales later.

Bumping for the fact that I've still given up on this year despite being .500 - come and get it.

Jacksonville Trade Block

Most players are gone, but here's a couple left still: LF Natsume Kondo : Superb platoon outfielder. His .873 OPS against lefties this year is more or less typical. Every contender needs a guy like this. Looking to take a flier on a teenage, 40-level type pitching prospect. LF/1B Pablo Lara : Consi...

Re: 2058 - You _Can_ Lose the Pennant in April

Sorta. This is a combination and binomial question, because they don't have to win 45 in a row, they just have to win 45 games over the 20 games they're projected to win for the other games. Using binomials the odds of them winning just 49 games to get them back to 69 wins at current strength is rou...

Blowing in the Wind 2058.5: Jacksonville Parts Ways With Long Time Cleanup Hitter To Sign Draft Picks

The Jacksonville Hurricanes have had some serious cashflow issues lately, and a lot of it stems directly from paying $45 million for Klaas Renders. Trading away staff ace Bernie Stuart lightened the load somewhat, but in drafting big bonus baby 1B Julio Navarro, possibly the best hitter in the 2058 ...

Because of roster limits, I achieved a long-time goal today by buying out Mike Brodt.

Re: Blowing in the Wind 2058.4: After Offseason Selloff, Jacksonville Contending Anyway

Interesting team. JAX is playing three games over their Pythagorean projection. It has been an interesting team. I'd some of my kids up picking up the slack except they're not really fully ready yet. Getting Wignes back was key - I was really struggling terribly without him. It's really helped that...

Blowing in the Wind 2058.4: After Offseason Selloff, Jacksonville Contending Anyway

It was widely assumed that when the Jacksonville Hurricanes traded away Bernie Stuart and Manoell Whanon earlier this year that they would fall quickly out of contention, as their aging offensive core and depleted pitching staff would not be enough to maintain their recent run of wild card berths. H...

Re: Analysis of the First Round of the 2058 BBA Amateur Draft

Maybe that was wishful thinking, though. I was hoping to spend most of my draft on pitching just because the organization is so threadbare on the mound. I did go pitching in rounds 3-7. So there was that. I dunno. Maybe I'm just over-thinking it. Not like that ever happens. Most of the top pitchers...

Pretty spot on with Gomez. Couldn't pass him up in that spot. Others have mentioned it, but always a good read and league feature highlight.
Only reason I didn’t take Gomez was birthdays. Otherwise pick makes sense.

Re: Analysis of the First Round of the 2058 BBA Amateur Draft

Intangibles are very often the "tiebreaker" in my picks. Lewis is one example. Only 16, the intangibles can boost him a lot...or he is who we think he is and tops out at AA. Lewis doesn't need a huge boost to be a starter in the BBA. Guy might be 7/7/10/7/6 against righties. He's gonna need a caddy...

Re: 58.022 – What Did Bikini See In Bushey?

There are quite a few players with Bushey's profile that have become successful centerfielders; the game didn't rate him 65 by accident.

Re: Analysis of the First Round of the 2058 BBA Amateur Draft

You wrote some pessimistic reviews of my picks a few years ago that look spot on in retrospect so I’m glad you’re ok with the Marriott pick. I'd go so far as to say I think that Marriott is a can't miss pick. Literally based on where he is in 2058, I think he's a primo reliever conversion if he suc...

Re: Analysis of the First Round of the 2058 BBA Amateur Draft

To be clear, when I refer to the 20-80 ratings, I don't mean just the one overall rating we get here. In my other league, which I was in for 5 seasons before joining here, we use 20-80 for the individual skills as well, like a kid in the draft might have a 30-30-20 for stuff-movement-control with a...

Re: Analysis of the First Round of the 2058 BBA Amateur Draft

It was good to track how pitching went and compare picks with both my original take and your analysis. Without the 20-80 skills ratings, for some reason, I struggle with getting a read on pitching prospects. That said, I was pretty much in agreement with the first 6 or 7 pitchers taken. Your though...
