Re: Brooklyn State of Mind: McBride Reaches 700 (2058.4)

McBride is pretty much a lock for the Hall. I'd be surprised if he retires, though. He's got 16 million reasons not to. :)

Re: Quick question

You can tell it's not me because I would never say there's any cross-influence between the ratings.

...unless, of course, I purposely wanted to mess up the trail, of course.

Plausible deniability is the root of everything.

Re: Quick question

As an aside, I think that correlation rates of pitcher overall ratings and potentials lends credence to the idea that OOTP v24's overall rating scheme weight Stuff way, way, too strongly.

Re: Quick question

My biggest takeaway was the relationship movement has with FIPs which is remarkable considering it should only impact one of the three FIP variables (HRs) . Whereas stuff should influence two (Ks and HRs) and control should factor into all three (Ks, BBs, and HRs). I think you might be over-thinkin...

And I saw a game at Vet once. I don't remember who won, but Ron Jones homered to the opposite field.

Re: My First Game (I’m Pretty Sure)

I love those names. I used to say I have "Luzinski Legs" for the size of my calfs. What a great set of players. As an aside: Chris Speier featured (oddly, with Blue Moon Odom and a few others) in a short story I wrote a few years back. You can find it here: https://pulphousemagazine.com/products/pul...

Fun Table of the Day - pt. II - Catcher Results

Here's another interesting, but deceiving chart. Tplate appearance results by who was catching, sorted by catcher K/BB ratio. Ideally, this would give you an ides of the value of catcher ability...and if you squint you can almost see it. But, of course, it's polluted by the idea that if catcher A re...

Re: Quick question

For what it’s worth – and I would be very careful putting too much onto it – here are correlation numbers I got from our BBA environment when I matched up the core pitcher ratings with ERA, ERA+, FIP, and FIP-. There’s nothing here to account for platoon advantage or parks, or strength of opponent, ...

Re: Quick question

League average stuff in ‘24 is above 9. That should change in ‘25, but I still value stuff highly. Movement is king and stuff/control are secondary. More stuff is better for poor defensive teams. I'll note that the ratings of the league average plate appearance is almost certainly different in the ...

Re: Quick question

Looking at SP, command/control definitely has a stronger place in the conversation than I think some guys give it. How much more is the secret sauce, of course. The question does get clouded by situation, ballpark, and defensive environment.

2058 - Staff Salaries Around the BBA

So I was doing my semi-annual scan of BBA coaching staffs, and got interested in what teams were paying their staffs as a whole--as one does. That got me to looking at the pay structure by position...and that got me looking to where each team was in my division and in my league. And, of course, that...

Re: 2058 – SP Ranking Thread

That's certainly a reasonable way to think of it. I was debating making the list 128 slots big at one point just to give the full range of #4s. At some point I should do some studies on churn rates. By that I mean how often do players move from one segment to another. I'm guessing that now that we'r...

Re: 2058 – SP Ranking Thread

Through September 7 Hector Silva's little foray into AAA appears to have cost him his edge, and Jacksonville's Bob Anderson has taken control of the #1 slot. Off-list, of interest remains Phil Cole ... who has climbed to 104, and should break into the top 100 again soon. | Rank | Year | Month | Day...
