Re: Bandit Post, Vol 2.2, 1996

The whole bullpen is getting crushed, in case you didn't notice. :)

Actually, Finch being in the last year of his deal would have been great. If Brown was I'd have probably kept them both.

Bandit Post, Vol 2.2, 1996

Here's the good news: Birmingham played better baseball than they had up until this point. Now, the bad news: Birmingham suffered through another 4-6 sim, splitting six home games and characteristically going 1-3 on the road. If this goes on much longer, Birmingham will start looking silly for havin...

Galarraga has demanded a trade. I Must Obey.

Lem Galarraga is available for free to anyone who wishes to pick up the rest of his salary for the rest of the season. I will accept a half-star prospect in his place.

Come and get him!

Re: Long Beach - Birmingham Trade

When you wrote that I didn't get enough, it probably wasn't because Rob Dibble would have an ERA of 7 through May.

The prospects are playing well though and I cut $16 million in salary - so I'm not unhappy.

I sit quietly, in restless anticipation...

of yet another 2-7 sim. But I'm really digging this whole OOTP thing. I can see why Recte had been shoving it down my throat for the better part of the last five years. Almost sorry I didn't join sooner. There's so much to look at! There's three legitimate levels of competition! It's so much less re...

Bandit Post, Vol 2.1, 1996

It's starting to get dire in the Yellowhammer State. The Birmingham Bandits, projected by most prognosticators and their owner to finish with a winning record at least, can at this point only be described as a mess. The offense is last in the Frick League in runs. The supposedly fixed bullpen is las...

Bandit Post, Vol 1.3, 1996

Oh boy. Birmingham figured they had survived their first sim despite not playing particularly well. Unfortunately, no one bothered telling Birmingham that they also might really be that bad. The Bandits had a horrific 2-7 sim to lower their record to 6-11 and despite playing some of the league's bet...

Re: Frick League Midwest Division Preview

If I had two more days I'd have knocked out the entire Frick League. And I'd have done it better.

Thanks for the encouragement though. Probably won't be the last time you hear from me. :)

Frick League Midwest Division Preview

( More if I can punch it up in time. -ED) The FL Midwest Division was a pretty good race last year. Birmingham took the early-season lead as one of the Frick League's best teams, but faded down the stretch with injuries and inconsistency. Eventually, the Des Moines Kernels would make it interesting ...

Bandit Post, Vol 1.2, 1996

A quick rundown of the first sim: Birmingham went 4-4 in Aaron Weiner's first sim despite not playing particularly well. Hayden Finch was blasted, the bullpen was pounded, regulars couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and still the Bandits slipped away with four wins. "We're lucky to be where we a...

Interesting notes.

At the same time, I didn't have to call up either of the two guys I mentioned.

So I've just been screwed for nothing.

Re: Waiver/DFA problem

My problem is that I put guys in the majors for spring training without options thinking that they could go back without being optioned back to the minors. I really had no idea that I could lose these players on waivers. The world can keep Penrod but I'd be pissed off if I lost Triplett and Cain jus...

Re: Sim?

Okay. Recte's at work and apparently pissed off that I'm bugging him to do anything - which makes a lot of sense since, well, he's at work.

No word from Gates, who's obviously somewhere in transit.

Maybe the schedule was again too optimistic, and so was I.

Looks like you made it in time - presuming that the sim hasn't gone down yet. Apparently we're on (pick your favorite ethnicity) time. Ever notice that black people, Jewish people, Arabic people, Indians and Pakistanis, about half of Europe and Africans all claim to be the possessors of the "right t...

Re: Draft Compensation

What's the difference? The problem I have with this is I'm not entirely certain what kind of compensation we'd use; wouldn't it be the usual Type A/Type B free agent type plays? Because this penalizes the middle teams more than the higher ones or the lower ones; the higher teams don't need to sign h...

Re: Birmingham Done Dealing, Ready For Season

I can't imagine I won't at least be competitive. I've got four very good starting pitchers at the top of the rotation and lots of quality fifth starter candidates, and everyone in the lineup hits for contact and hits homers. We're not gonna draw a lot of walks but we ought to be pretty darn competit...
