Re: California 2038.10 - An arrogant Jerk's Guide to Sustained Winning, Part 3

Ok, here are a couple of specific definitional questions. When you talk about “market value” free agents, what does that mean, exactly? What the player is asking? What others are willing to pay? How can you tell what a player’s market value is to determine if you’re over- or underpaying?

Re: California 2038.10 - An arrogant Jerk's Guide to Sustained Winning, Part 3

Ted: Another outstanding piece. So, let me give you a hypothetical (for here, it’s for real in my other league). You trade three decent but decidedly excess guys for a high-priced superstar to make a stretch run for the playoffs. You make the playoffs, win a couple of rounds, but lose in the league ...

Huntsville Headlines 38.002: Experimenting with openers

[Recording Starts] This is GM Voice Memo Number One. I'm trying to get settled in now, and one of the first things I did was take a look at our pitching rotation, since there’s widespread belief that it’s a problem area. http://pebabaseball.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/voice-memo-icon-iphone.png ...

Re: 2038, Sim #18 Chatter

7'3" Pancho Madrigal pitched a no hitter for me in double A. He also had a triple double and killed it on the offensive boards, if I read the box score right ... Seattle had a prospect leave to play basketball. I think he was under 6 feet tall. Madrigal would have been more realistic. OOTP channeli...

Huntsville Headlines 38.001: A rambling, graceless entrance

Baseball News Network Announcer: In just a few moments, we’ll take you live to Huntsville, Alabama, for the introductory press conference of the Phantoms’ new General Manager, Vic Caleca, who was a surprise hire earlier this week. He comes to Huntsville from the Mumbai Metro Stars of the Unified Mi...

Re: GM Change, Huntsville Phantoms

Just by way of an FYI to everyone: I have exchanged emails today with Kyle, and he says he does not plan to take up the Huntsville reins again at this point and told me "to enjoy the team and the league." So, I shall do so unreservedly. I'll start posting some TN stuff, this evening most likely, and...

Re: Boise 2038.11 - Can Frenchy Do it

You know, what you could do is set up a weekly thing and call it Frenchy’s World or something like that and then highlight the one or two (or five - whatever you like) of his most outrageous performances of that week. Something like, On Wednesday, he went 3 for 5 with a double, a homer, and 4 RBI’s,...

Re: GM Change, Huntsville Phantoms

Actually, Steve, Manama has a couple of decent pitchers - you’ve definitely got some pieces to work with. (If you haven’t, by the way, set the relative ratings to UMEBA. They’re way too depressing to look at, otherwise ...)

Re: Boise 2038.10: Apologizes to the League to an Extent

Re: PEBA, I'm trying like hell. I'm leading the league championship 3-2, and the deciding game(s) will be simmed today ... so ... yikes. PEBA series, hopefully, would start tomorrow ... If, following Thursday's BBA sim there's no movement with Kyle, I'm move forward. But I hate like hell there were ...

Re: Boise 2038.10: Apologizes to the League to an Extent

Here's the thing - I'm still going to just lay low here for a couple of days and not post in the Huntsville forum or make any moves with the team (beyond exporting) until it's abundantly clear that Kyle's not coming back. I'm a little unhappy that I got plunged into the middle of league drama here -...

Re: GM Change, Huntsville Phantoms

I don’t know the circumstances of Kyle’s departure, but if there’s a chance that he would change his mind and want to come back and Matt and the board are cool with it, I am totally fine with going back to the friendly confines of Mumbai and the UMEBA. I like the league, I like my team and I had no ...
