Re: 2043, Sim #2 Chatter

Vic was nice enough to mention that if we win at a .572 clip between now and the all-star break then we will be back at .500 by the All-Star Break...I mean a .572 clip seems doable for a team currently at a .000 clip right? Don't bow to the pressure to be like everyone else, Niles. Lean into it! Go...

Re: AFBI 2043.1

So, I was listening to hear to the parts where I knew was talking over people, and I realized the video doesn't show my perfectly awesome skype picture when I talk. What gives? Also, I love that Joe's is "playoffs??!?!?" Jim Mora.

Re: 43.02 Unveiling the Sacramento Mad Popes

This is great. Always meant to rebrand the team. Just felt very bland as an organization. The California Crusaders were a team in Recte's old FPS league, same ugly logo, etc. Was bland there too (and also horribly run with a string of uninvolved owners so never really relevant). Also never made sens...

I will take 5 super pitchers and an offense that can't score, thank you very much.

More seriously, nice listen.

Re: The Base on Balls: Or, Is Mark Wareham The Unicorn Everyone Thinks He Is?

You know, this has me thinking that and understanding of baseball from the mind of someone who played has some consequences I hadn't anticipated. I didn't really think to even ask this question. In hindsight, of course a guy who can't hit the ball with authority wouldn't see so many balls. But I don...

Re: The Base on Balls: Or, Is Mark Wareham The Unicorn Everyone Thinks He Is?

Hopefully, this gets fixed sometime down the road. There's no reason Wareham should see 7% more balls. If fixed, it would nerf some unicorns, for sure. ...Ted? Oh, god! The transition is happening, isn't it? It's out of my control... See?!? It's not me. There's something wrong with the water in Cru...

Re: GM's Corner - Episode 23 - California

I've been hanging out here a bit more the last week because well, we're all stuck indoors. I was excited to hear what Shoeless had to say about his experience with California. I'm only 19 minutes in, and I'm laughing my ass off. I HATE POETRY. Well, done sir! And I'm super glad you're having fun doi...

He had to keep that computer because newer ones wouldn’t run FPS if I recall.
I had one until I moved to start my residency in 2011. Finally threw it out at that point. Always planned to pull the FPS data off it but never got around to it.

Re: Top 7 Snips from Non-Ron YS9

Like some of you other GBC vets I'm sure, I spent many hours over the years chatting with Eric Ramon on AIM. I especially got to know him when I took over the offseason management of both leagues, as I had to coordinate the multiple decompiles and recompiles of the game code it took at the end to ge...

Re: 2041-04: A Talons AAA Player Just Had the Greatest Season in RHML History. But the Talons Aren't Sure Which One.

I decide to log in today and lo and behold there is a Talons news for me to comment on. AND it's on a subject I can get all know-it-all about. Thanks Marko! Mateo was just as good of a batter as Yokoyama. His OBP of .431 is significantly better than Yokoyama's at .414. Of the "old time" stats, on ba...

Re: 9-News: 41.033 – AFBI Kibbutzing - Is Lucas McNeill a Hall of Famer?

If he retired today I'd say no. If he tacks on another 4-5 WAR worth of decent play, I'd say that's a strong case. He'll most likely end up 72 WAR or so, and 70 is my general threshold for "this guy should be in". For a player just over 70 WAR, you'd have to make me a solid case as to why they don't...

Re: Is WAR Working in OOTP?

A little birdy told me Ron was responding to some of my AFBI rants. So here I am. And everyone already said everything I have to say. HGH's stats are far less impressive if you consider 40 HR is nothing these days and 60 happens every other year it seems, sometimes by multiple players. For my entire...

Re: New League Structure Discussion

And Ron, thanks for the breakdown of arb estimates in relation to the internal settings for superstar and star players. It's helping me frame where I want my settings. In comparison to the BBA settings, it looks like the correct approach to get waht I want is to actually raise the setting for less g...

Re: New League Structure Discussion

Again, I do appreciate the feedback. I said I don't want to debate here. But people have questioned they "why" of certain parts of my idea, so I figure I should at least respond. One theme I've heard is "this is a problem in MLB, too" - My response to this is, so what? It doesn't have to be. It's a ...

Re: New League Structure Discussion

Just realize that the idea of teams keeping their players, and players being paid what they are worth very early in their careers are at counter-purposes, so a design that does both is going to be hard to figure out at the end of the day. Yup, I get this, but it's still what I'm shooting for. When ...

Re: New League Structure Discussion

Yes, teams will want to keep their own players, but that's actually counter to the goal of paying for current value rather than past performance. One issue with the idea of achieving Pay for Current Value by extending Arbitration years is that I don't think salaries ever go down in arbitration. So ...
