59.03 Breums Leverage London Ties to Sign Prospect

The Breums, father and son, flanked Mas'ud bin Salah al Din at today’s event. All three wore Blazers caps; bin Salah al Din also sported a Blazers jersey with the number 10. https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/news/html/images/person_pictures/player_67830.png Mas'ud bin Salah al Din The elder Breum ...

I'm very excited to get a real CF who isn't a rental or a journeyman.

59.01 Montreal Unveils New Development Lab

Back in 2056, now-retired Blazer Quant 'Greek Freak' Kouros was interviewed after recording his 2,500th BBA hit. Among his remarks, he said, “I have to credit our hitting coach, Elmer Peters, with helping me prepare every day. I also want to give appreciation to the club's embrace of the new hologr...

Re: Using the Migration Graphs to Derive More Accurate Ratings Information for Your Players

Let's use a real world example. Take our starting pitcher, Todd Schroeder. Erik traded for him because he thought he would perform well as a SP for us, given his 8 stuff / 10 movement / 7 control and three pitches all rated 8. He did indeed, starting 20 games, throwing 117 innings to a 3.31 ERA with...

Using the Migration Graphs to Derive More Accurate Ratings Information for Your Players

If we stipulate that the actual players did not change but that only their visible ratings changed during the migration, then we can use the Migration Graphs to determine where an individual player is on the percentile continuum to a more accurate degree than just "he's got a 5 in power." Suppose th...

Re: Graphic Representation of the Batting Ratings Migration

Here are the final two graphs. eyechart.png Almost of the batter pool now has an eye rating of 5. Four is lower quartile, while six is now upper quartile. avoidk.png Like Eye, almost half of hitters have an Avoid K rating of five, albeit shifted slightly lower in the pool. Any value other than five ...

Graphic Representation of the Batting Ratings Migration

Here are your graphs for the five hitting ratings that are common to OOTP 24 and OOTP 25. contactpotential.png This is a little misleading since power is a component of the OOTP 24 rating and is not included in the OOTP 25 rating. OOTP 25's Contact rating is a combination of BABIP and Avoid K, but t...

Graphic Representation of the Pitching Ratings Migration

I'm a big fan of graphs, in case you haven't already figured that out. I took the charts from my last post and made graphs that I believe do a good job of conveying the old versus new values of the pitching ratings. stuff potential.png Here you can see that 5 Stuff is the new 7. movement potential.p...

How Do OOTP 25 Pitching Ratings Relate to OOTP 24 Ratings?

We are all calibrated to interpret ratings in OOTP 24. Now we are confronted with dramatically changed ratings in OOTP 25. How can we make sense of these? Here is my attempt to relate the two. I've compiled tables that show individual pitching ratings and their percentile rank in their respective pl...

Impact of OOTP 25 on Flamethrowers

OOTP 24 had many pitchers whose Stuff rating was well above the nominal 1-10 scale, 320 of them to be exact. What happened to these guys during the migration to OOTP 25? How did the game reevaluate their overall Potential? Here's the graph, using the same presentation as my earlier post on sluggers:...

Re: Impact of OOTP 25 on Sluggers

Sorry for the confusion. Here's an example. Our number one draft pick from 2057 is Raul Gallehos. In OOTP 24, he has a Potential of 75 on the 20-80 scale. He has a rating of 10 for potential home run power. ootp24 raul.jpg Now, in OOTP 25, he has a Potential of 60 on the 20-80 scale. He dropped 15 p...

Impact of OOTP 25 on Sluggers

We know that home run power was removed from the Contact calculation for OOTP 25. This resulted in your average slugger having a reduced contact rating. The question I seek to answer here is this: How did the overall potential rating change for players in OOTP 25, relative to their OOTP 24 slugging ...

Re: Player Potential in OOTP 25

Interesting chart. It would be cool to see who the biggest risers / fallers were from 24 to 25 Two players lost 30 points of potential in the migration. Portland's 2B Edward Roundfield IV, ranked as the #20 overall prospect, declined from 75 to 45. Yellow Springs' CF Carter Cramer, ranked as the #1...

Re: Player Potential in OOTP 25

Anecdotally, I think most of the 20s moving up to 30ish are relievers. The old game severely underrated relievers and half our lower minors pitching staffs used to be filled with them. Nine players bumped 25 points from 20 to 45. All of them are relief pitchers. |Age|Name|Org|Level| |---|----|---|:...

Player Potential in OOTP 25

We have all been trying to make sense of the ratings changes after our league migrated to OOTP 25. This is an effort to answer these questions: Has the average potential of the player universe changed? Are there more or fewer players with low potential? Are there more or fewer players with high pote...
