The Pirates' problem isn't cash, it's that they have zero idea how to develop players. I've been watching talented but troubled players succeed outside of Pittsburgh for almost 40 years now. It's not a new problem. The financial system doesn't help, but that's not why they're losers.

I seem to have bad luck guessing which older player will stay good, no matter how much I pour over their year to year stats changes.
