Re: 2058, Hall of Fame Voting Chatter

I’ve just accepted that we’ve got a bunch of small hall guys so classes will be small for a little longer. But soon the flood gates will open for the mega draft players.

Dick Walton

I DFA’d a player so I could reinstate Dick Walton from waivers but he got released because my export didn’t take (like seemingly others in the league). Any chance I can have him back on my roster?

Re: 2059.16 Flight School Charlotte Prospect Report-Pitchers

Ramirez was near the top of my board when you selected him. I still like him. The others all look surprisingly good on paper until you dig a little deeper into their injury history or whatnot. But you’ll probably end up with a good reliever or something from that group. And then there’s Natta. Even ...

Re: Which Title Would you Want?

What does it say about Chicago that it got put in the slums of the MLB and STILL can't really win? Chicago is split across two teams and one team, the White Sox, are basically mid to small market. Cubs have been fairly competitive but are otherwise a good example of why spending does not guarantee ...

Re: Which Title Would you Want?

How many championships have Milwaukee and Cleveland won recently? St. Louis I give them credit up until recently they were the among the gold standards on how to run a mid market team. Playoffs are a crapshoot. Just ask Ron. I agree to a point with that thought. I think if a team has an elite SP it...

2059.03: Early Offseason Recap

12/1/2058 One player who played for the 2058 Bears retired from professional baseball. Gerardo Eremitani spent a few weeks as the San Fernando backup catcher and posted a .532 OPS. Prior to that he spent more than a decade as Brooklyn's primary catcher. Eremitani retires with 1,106 career hits and 1...

I never GMed a GBC team but I have to imagine tying up that much payroll is worth it for a 8 WAR player.

Re: Which Title Would you Want?

When a small market team NEVER wins the problem is in the front office. When they can't win for more than short periods the problem is with the system. That part kind of is what it is. Tampa seems to be the exception that proves the rule. St. Louis, Cleveland, and Milwaukee have all had extended ru...

Yeah, I don't get why you can't tell it what position to pick to work on. I hope they fix that in 26, probably not something a patch can do.
It’d be cool to have a guy learn a new position instead of having to give them so much PT there. Doesn’t seem OP.

Re: 2059 – Team Options (Team Retained Player)

I intended to release Walton and then looked at the potential shortstop market and decided I valued the certainty.

Then he went a lumped to 8 infield range last sim so I currently have him on waivers. Let me know if you're interested--I'll cover half the contract.

I’m a Pirates fan, no chance they’ll win anytime soon with the MLB financial system and Nutting as the owner.
I don't think its fair to give MLB's financial system much of the blame for the Pirates not winning. If the Marlins/White Sox/Cardinals/Royals can win a World Series so can Pittsburgh.

Re: 2059 – Options (Opt-outs and True Options – Player Leaves)

First thing I’ll say is while those four guys who opted out and then re-signed got more guaranteed money out of their new deal they all had player options on their original contracts that gave them a lot more flexibility. I’d argue every player except Clayton hurt themselves by opting out. I agree ...

Re: 2059 – Options (Opt-outs and True Options – Player Leaves)

I’m completely aligned with your analysis of the second group. What the hell was Ramon Gonzalez thinking? At least the others have had some really productive seasons and could reasonably end up benefiting from a bidding war. Gonzalez has been the pits.

You have a strong young offensive core that seemed to underperform in 2058. I've taken notice.
