So, how does a hitter maintain a .400+ OBP when you're batting average is under .230??

With 160+ walks, that's how.

Twin Cities SS Mark Wareham, knows how to do three things at the plate.

1 - Not Swing at Bad Pitches (1st BBA Singe Season History - 162 Walks)
2 - Swing and miss at good pitches in the zone (5th FL - Strikeouts 169)
3 - Hit for Power when the bat does connect (.800+ OPS)

Well, and get on base...

With his 162 walks this season, Mark Wareham set the BBA Single Season record for getting free First Base passes.

Statistically, it was an unusual season for Wareham. He collected more K's(169) than either Total Hits (138) or Walks (162).

In fact, during this reporters extremely short time researching the stat history....

No other player has managed to earn the qualifying At Bats in a season and has collected more walks than hits. Even the 2nd Place Single Season Walk holder, Alfredo Martinez (149 BB - 2028) had ten more hits at 159 or +10 hits over walks.

Wareham had 24 less hits than walks. Unlikely that anyone in BBA History has touched such a ratio and still collected at least 100+ hits in a season.

Mark is definitely not your prototypical.. well, any type hitter. Power or contact.. He is who he is.
