Lead by top prospect Miguel Ramos, the Vero Beach Crusaders finished the FPL season with a 20-8 record and ousted Tampa in the first round of the FPL playoffs en route to a final series with Apalachicola. Vero Beach received multiple exceptional performances from future Crusaders, notably hitters Antonio Lara (.354/.453/.525), Flynn Johnson (.355/.402/.597), and Alberto Benitez (.372/.425/.500). The pitching wasn't so bad either, as starters Felipe Rosado (2.92 ERA in 37 innings), Bertrand Girault (3.93 in 34.1), and Edgardo Maldonado (3.55 in 33) had solid campaigns.

And then there was Miguel Ramos. Ramos set a FPL record (admittedly the league has only existed two season) with 58 strikeouts. He did this in 46.2 innings over seven starts. The old record was 55 by Mario Villareal and Pablo Morenas last year. Ramos posted an 11.2 K/9 rate, and more importantly, lead the league with a 0.6 BB/9 rate. Surrendering too many free passes had delayed Ramos' big league readiness, and he seems to have finally turned the corner in that regard. His ERA was a fine 3.28, but his undersold his excellent 2.21 FIP.

Ramos truly appears ready for big league duty next season, which comes as a relief to many Crusaders fans, as just one year ago, he'd made little to not development on either his change up or ability to throw strikes. (This time last season he had a 3 rated change and 3 control). Ramos shut the door on Tampa in game three of the first round of the playoffs, striking out 9 over 6.1 innings while allowing 5 hits, a walk and one run. He'll take the ball in game three versus Apalachicola should.

Ramos is very good and still has room to grow. The rich get richer.

I'm hoping he has a little Jose Chavez in him.

Jealous of your team. I had a guy lead the league in hitting, but even including him, I didn't send anyone I'm too excited about. Though if a couple guys get a bump or 2, they could be interesting.

I'm hoping Chavez gets a blood transfusion from Ramos and stays young.

There are really only four or five legit prospects on the team, and Ramos is the only future star. I have a lot of AAAA guys.

Those are some solid young players you have there.

Like Flynn Johnston. He could be a 2 win player for a couple years.

Wow, "Bumblebee" Ramos looks like a star in the making. He's gonna be fun to watch.
