Reported Connection To Sluggers

The Santa Clara Daily broke recent news that 22-year-old AA outfield prospect Diego Reyes has been put on suspension for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy. Reyes was recently noted to be among the team’s most interesting prospects in center field, specifically for his ability to field. At one point, he was rumored to be under consideration for a callup last season when Carlos Garcia was injured, but the Nine went to the trade market to get Dave Molina instead.

“It’s not really a surprise,” said Sam Brewington, the Santa Clara Spartan’s hitting coach. “I mean, just looking at him you can see he’s bulked up. And it’s all over his stats.” Reyes put on 15 pounds in the off-season, moving from 185 pounds to 200, a factor that some pundits said too a step off his jump in center. But he had hit .325/.438/.525 in only 48 at bats in April games—numbers considerably higher than his past might suggest was likely. That performance included 5 doubles and a homer, which project to considerable career highs.

Of the pounds, one local broadcaster said “I think half of it was in his forehead…I mean, you could see Reyes growing horns and chewing cud just standing out there waiting for a pitch. How he thought he would get away with that kind of thing is hard to imagine.” Local fans suggest that interest in Reyes has always been more about talent than heart, and that he's never really been considered a guy who would turn down an opportunity to party. "The gym has never really been Diego's friend," said an anonymous woman who had been linked with him late last year.

Reyes, as contrite, but confused, apparently thinking he was being punished for not taking enough. “I did my best,” he said. “I followed Genius’s notes to perfection. I don’t know what happened.”

FINAL DECISIONS COMING

The league has suspended Reyes for 80 days. The YS9 front office has not made a statement on the matter, but some inside the circle say the team may consider trading him, out putting him on outright release. The issue is apparently not the specific use of such drugs, but the connection to Louisville.

“Everyone understands the idea of second chances, but you have to have some standards some where, right?”

Whatever roster move gets made will likely set off a rolling wave through the organization as center field prospect all take a step up.

might be something that kicks in with a failed test, because my former closer Pedro Garcia has it too.

Daniel Labrie Jr. Was after he failed a drug test late in his career.

Yep. Doesn't really matter what the fans thought about him before he gets popped. Goes to Disliked immediately. The one think I do not know is if a player can get there image changed and not be disliked anymore. Never followed a player to see if it's possible.

He's really not good enough for Louisville to ever have noticed him...

Sorry Ron,

This one is on the mean streets of Ohio

Soo... will fan interest increase if you dump a disliked player?
