The staff of 9-Lives learned today that Doris Connelly, a clerk employed by the offices of Mason and Mason Architectural has filed the required paperwork to obtain the city’s approval to survey land at three sites in and around the city. While no specifics are contained in the request, the submission sparks rumors that the club may be considering building a new ballpark.

“I can’t say anything about that,” said assistant GM Howard Dunlap during the team’s weekly community outreach session when asked about the team’s interest in such a construction, and in particular any funds the city or state of Ohio might be asked for in order to support it. “We intend to be a good community steward of all our assets, though, and any such activity would be thoroughly vetted.”

The idea of a new park is not completely new. Chavez Memorial, the team’s current home, is still functional, but has seams that are beginning to show. The grounds crew have complained about certain aspects of the stadium’s original construction, and maintenance costs are growing. At the same time, John Little, the club’s owner, has been adamant about some kind of expansion that would get the team to be able to “bring in more fannies.” With Little apparently AWOL at some form of rehab, however, the activity is particularly curious.

Alternately, the club could well be merely looking to add more office space to their staff. The Nine have been reported to be flush with cash, and have expanded baseball operations in the past. It’s expensive to run a high-quality organization, and modern office space is a big deal in attracting and retaining top people.

Connelly, when invited to a tasty lunch at the Bistro On The Corner, said the city was certain to approve the request and agreed to another date…er…lunch in a week to review the situation. “It’s always exciting to see another building going up,” she said as she daintily wiped mustard from her lips.

Any truth to the rumor that YS is building a new stadium only so they can display their 2032 Wild Card banner? :champs:

I'm now getting that sinking feeling this comment will be just the jinx I need to make sure you win the division.

Madison is far too good for us to win the division after all this time.
