Best Division in Baseball Could Send Four to Playoffs

In what would have been the least anticipated line of the pre-season, the Yellow Springs Nine will finish up two games against the Barnstormers, then return home to play a tough and critical series with the Twin Cities River Monsters that could have huge playoff ramifications for both teams.

Manager Bret Richards says he envisions going all out over the last 13 games, but whether the Nine has enough in the tank to make a last-gasp run to steal the pennant is debatable. “Every game is tough,” Richards said. “The fact that pretty much no one was expecting Twin Cities to be here says nothing. They’re in a death-battle for that last playoff spot, and they’re going to come into town loaded for bear.”

The fact is that the entire Heartland Division is loaded for bear, and every team is built in different directions, which makes for an exciting brand of baseball. Everyone knew Madison, Yellow Springs, and Louisville were going to be creams of the Frick League…I mean, let’s face it, it’s not simple Heartland superiority speaking to say that any of the three would be fighting Long Beach for the Pacific title. That’s just common sense, am I right? The fact that the Heartland has to play the Heartland so often is the only reason its teams records are even close to the other divisions. Completely fact base reporting there.

And now here come the youthful River Monsters to challenge the top three.

It won’t get much easier for the Nine after Twin Cities leaves town as the Nine will head west to face Long Beach, the only real team in the Pacific (while Madison gets a cake-walk through the lilies with California.

“It’s pretty much over,” moaned blogger Jake Kelly. “We’re doomed. There’s no chance that Madison can be expected lose this thing. If they do, it’s a collapse of monstrous proportions, and even then, YS9 has to be able to string big wind together against the River Monsters and the Surfers. I mean, they need to drop a Cyclone on Omaha, send the River Monsters back to Loch Ness, and deal a Sharknado to Long Beach. Yeah, like that’s gonna happen?
