Injury Prone Outfielder Could Be Back For Post Season
Club Insiders Angry

Valencia pitcher Fernando Pena hit two batters in a game this week, the second was Jose Pena, who left the game but was able to play the following day. The first, however, was injury-plagued outfielder Roberto Miranda, who suffered a fractured bone in his hand. Team doctors say Miranda will be out for a while, but could be ready to play by late September, meaning he could be available if the team makes the post season.

"Was it just an unlucky break?" said manager Bret Richards, perhaps suggesting two hit batsmen in two innings may be more than it seems. "I'm not so sure."

Miranda, a 12-year veteran, was acquired earlier this season from the Hawaii Tropics. When he’s been able to get onto the field, he’s been brilliant for the Nine, posting a .328/.394/.431 slash line with 12 steals in 16 attempts. His right hand bat had paired well with Victor Guerra against left handed pitching, and the team extended his contract on the cheap earlier this year, suggesting he’ll be with the nine until he’s at least 35.

“It sucks,” Miranda said. “I want to help this team get where it’s going, but that’s hard when you’re on the disabled list.”

With rosters expanding in September, the club has some options available to them. Outfielders Angel Hernandez and Octavio Rivera are in the minors, and the on-and-off again relationship with JJ Abrams could be toggled on one more time as he’s currently sitting on the DFA list.

“We want to get Roberto back as fast as we can,” said GM Ron Collins. “But really the first thing we’re going to do if file a restraining order against Fernando Pena. We want to make sure he stays at least 100 feet away from Yellow Springs hitters for the rest of his life.”

I'd keep Miranda on the DL till the playoffs. This guy belongs in a rubber room with no sharp objects and a doctor on call "just in case".

We knew what we were getting when we got him. :) But, yes. Rubber room. We need his RHB in the lead-off slot against lefties.
