LaLoosh Named BBA Pitcher of the Month

Eduardo Lopez and Crash LaLoosh dazzled the home fans this weekend, tossing a pair of gems that gave the team a sweep of the visiting Indy Grasshoppers. Lopez’s complete game came on 114 pitches. He struck out 9 Hoppers and walked one while giving up only a single run, the victory raised his record to 14-9, and dropped his ERA to 3.24. LaLoosh followed by giving up only a pair of runs in 7.1 innings, striking out 9 without issuing a walk. His ERA remained a solid 2.40.

Adding in the Sanchez shutout on Friday night, one assumes the Grasshopper offense will be perfectly fine to never see Chavez Memorial Stadium again.

News after the game was the Frick League had named LaLoosh their pitcher of the month for August. LaLoosh was 5-0 on the month, with a 2.24 ERA on the month. Lopez, who is also occasionally mentioned, went 3-1, 2.85.

“I would have given it to Jose,” said LaLoosh, meaning Jose Chavez, who matched the right hander with a 5-0 record on the month, but whose ERA was a more pedestrian 3.46 over that time.

With pennant fever hitting, the entire rotation seems to be hitting on all cylinders at the right time. It’s serving to make an offense that’s maybe a shade above league average look pretty formidable. The team clubbed three homers last night, two the night before. In addition, the addition of David Cantu has stabilized the closer role. He threw an inning last night, picking up his 14th save since arriving on the roster in a deal with Atlantic City.

“I like how the team is set up right now,” LaLoosh said after acknowledging his award. “We’re pretty loose and ready to go in September.”

They should be. With this latest push the Nine enters the month with a 5 game pad and the top casinos making them a 19:1 favorite to take the Heartland Division crown. Let's see if they can manage to stay loose enough to win, but not so loose they loose track of what they're doing.
