Stops Stars As “Special Season” Enters Final Month
The Nine lost a tough extra-inning game to Valencia in the wee hours of the night before, so you can imagine how down the clubhouse could have been today. Enter Lawrence Columbus “Crash” LaLoosh, who struck out nine men, walked one and scattered 4 hits over his seven innings of work, dropping his ERA to 2.40 and leading his team to a 3-1 victory in front of another sold out collection of suddenly rabid fans.
The win served to keep division rival Louisville at arm’s length as the Nine remain three games up in the division.
Juan Arevalo had three hits, including the solo homer that put the Nine up to stay, but LaLoosh was the man of the moment. “He’s amazing,” said J.J. McQuade. “The man is as cool as a seersucker suit. He’s as smooth as James Bond, but deadlier and better looking.” LaLoosh downplayed the events of the evening, but McQuade’s commentary could go on and on. On a night when a loss would create a streak of the worst kind, the team needed a strong outing. Once again they called on Crash, and once again Crash delivered. On a rotation of superstars, he’s beginning to stand out as the Superstar of Superstars. It makes the volume of those “Nebraska” whispers grow just that much stronger.
“He’s been there game in and game out,” manager Bret Richards said. “Other guys get blazing hot for a month or so, then fade out, but Crash has been pretty much perfect all year. A run or two in seven or eight innings.”
All total that season adds up to 15 wins in 4 defeats to go with that 2.40 ERA, and whispers or not, those are Award Quality stats.
