Hurler Tosses Statement Game As Team Returns Home

Crash LaLoosh isn’t saying a lot about the race for the Frick League Nebraska Award, but he’s making statements about who’s going to win the Frick Heartland every time he goes to the mound. This time it was a mound in Iowa to face key division rival Des Moines.

Final result:
Yellow Springs 5, Des Moines 0
W – LaLoosh

Sure, talk about the homer he got in support from Miguel Flores if you want, or the eleven hits the team banged out on the way to those five runs they scored. Point to the first-inning run Roberto Miranda’s generated with his lead-off double, stolen base, and ground out that provided all the margin LaLoosh needed. But the story of the game was Crash LaLoosh and the fact that you could pretty much tell that there weren’t going to be any Kernel runs going down on this day.

He opened the game swinging strikeout, walk, strikeout looking, strikeout swinging. They were the first three of LaLooshes 14 Ks on the day. He gave up three hits and a walk.

“When Crash is dialed in like that, it’s a lot of fun to watch,” said fellow rotation mate Rick Ward. “There’s a craft to the game that a lot of guys bring to it, but Lawrence Columbus is different. When he’s dialed in it’s partly art, partly craft, and partly that thing that is indescribable about things you can’t understand.”

The victory came a day after Des Moines had beaten the Nine, and put a stop to any idea of a losing streak. It may well have been a death knell to the Kernel’s season.

“The division is tight now,” said BBA Network commentator Buss Snider. “But this one hurts. I’m not sure the Kernels can come back from it.”

LaLoosh, however, will be coming back to the mound again in five days as the team hosts Valencia. That’s what he does, after all. He shows up, he throws spectacular baseball, and he moves on.
