With GM Ben Teague confirming that the Hawks will be moving to Nashville this offseason there is a template to reference for what new fans can expect. Fans in Halifax can put in calls to Marquette for a mutual support group because this isn't the first time Teague has pulled up stakes for greener pastures. In 2014, he took over a Marquette Suns team that hadn't historically seen much success. By 2020 the squad had landed in Indianapolis and their fortunes changed with the scenery.

Counting 2014, Teague posted 6 consecutive losing seasons with as few as 57 wins (2019) and no more than 74 (2016). After the Suns became the Grasshoppers there was one mediocre season in the inaugural campaign before the team reeled off 6 consecutive FL Midwest titles making the Landis in 2023, losing to Huntsville, and winning 105 games that year and 110 in 2025. There aren't too many things in common with the circumstances. The GM has had the reins of the Hawks franchise only 2 months where he had 6 seasons underneath him when heading from Marquette to Indy. There is a fundamental takeaway, however.

While in Marquette, Teague assembled many of the core pieces of what would be the most successful stretch in franchise history. In 2018, he shipped top-10 prospect and likely future HOF'er CF Leon Sandcastle to Montreal getting SP Kevin 'Owl' Lee, RF Sergio 'Rat Race' Ramos, and SP Hermenegildo Padez in return. All three turned out as key pieces in the Grasshoppers' run. Also in 2018, the team drafted 2B Valeri 'The Ankle' Kharlamov and discovered international FA CF Mario 'Maniac' Soriano. Those two would hit the majors just in time to make Indy a force with which to reckon. Teague hasn't had anywhere near the time to compile those kind of pieces for delivering a winner to Nashville.

But even though key players were on the way, the GM became markedly more aggressive after the relo. He signed SP Eduardo López and SP Alfredo Salazar via the Rule 6 draft. He traded for SP Francisco 'Groundhog' Medina and SS Vincent Lancaster in 2021, and 1B Newman 'Calico' Watson in 2023.

We would never want to predict 6-consecutive division titles for any team even if we thought it was feasible and it's just not in this case, so there's no way to tell in what direction the Goats (nee Hawks) will go down south. But if history is any guide we can look for GM Teague to bump up the pace and aggressiveness - perhaps as early as this offseason.
